not sure if someone already posted but you gotta check out the Pgh. Children's Museum in the North Side. I just went up last weekend to visit some relatives. I think I enjoyed it more than my three-year old daughter.

Are you going to be in the weekend of August 21st?
We can meet up for breakfast on Saturday, August 23rd at Piper's Pub in South Side if you'd like! Great food, great beers on tap and Arsenal plays Fulham at 10AM(EDT).
:D
Oh, and Jazzy will probably be there, haha.
It's rite by the crazy ridiculous Burger King with a drive through out of nowhere around where you'll be staying.

We'll only be in town the 21st and 22nd... shooting out early on the 23rd. Sounds like a fun time, though.

Okay, if you're only going to be in town for two nites and staying in South Side then you should absolutely hit up Fat Heads. They have absolutely amazing food and about 100 beers on tap. It's absurd, absurdly awesome.
Their wings are spectacular, and their burghers are even better.
South Side isn't really my thing to be honest (well anymore I guess) but I always end up down there meeting people who like it. They started building up clubs and the like in between all my dive bars and it put me off on the whole part of town.
There is a really cool bar in an alley though behind Carson in between 11th/12th Street (Armstrong Park) that looks like a whole in the wall, because it is, but they have crazy drink specials and usually something funny going - it's called Bar 11.

Haven't been there in awhile though.
Another dive bar you have to go to is Dee's Cafe right on Carson. Straight out of the 50's but the grimey ass 50's. Actually was featured in Esquire Magazine as one of America's Best Bars:

Uhm ... shit I have to roll to lunch.
Let me know what parts of town you want are looking to get into.
I live in North Shore across the 16th Street Bridge from the Strip District (basically all clubs, I'd stay - Lord knows I do).
The Buccos are unfortunately not in town those days as they're in Milwaukee, but bars around the Warhol/ Mattress Factory tend to be a little uppity. Or like chain bars I guess.
Except for the glorious Triple Deuce. But there really is no redeeming quality to that bar unless there is a game because it is just a dive bar in the middle of nowhere, haha.

Not too sure we're going to be going to too many bars since we'll have my 3 year old tagging along... but I did catch a write-up on Fat Heads. Food looks pretty good... may need to hit that for lunch.
We're sticking to the South Side if at all possible... unless there is something we "must see" in some other part of town. My wife and her mother love to shop so a cool shopping area would sway us to another part of town.
Like I said, our main focus is Friday night dinner... that's pretty much it as far as permanent plans.

People love Nakama in South Side for supper. It's like a place where they cook in front of you, but you can also get tables where they don't. Probably will need reservations, but I highly recommend it.
They have a few good steak houses down on Carson as well (Pittsburgh Steak Company, South Side Steaks). Paparazzi's is a nice Italian Restaurant ... but not like a real one (I'd go to Il Pizealo or whatever in Mt. Lebo).
You're also about 10 streets away from Station Square which has the Melting Pot, Pittsburgh Rare (Steakhouse), and a Hard Rock Cafe. The SouthSide Works is in the opposite direction a bit up in about the 30's (?) but has the Cheesecake Factory and some other nicer restaurants.
Uhm, in South Side there is a really uppity kind of French Restaurant called Le Pommier which may be nice.

I actually moved to Pittsburgh for one day in the mid 90's.
My high school sweetheart convinced me to move from Denver to be closer to her college. I drove there with a car full of my crap, looked for an apt. couldn't find anything. Turned around and asked her to move back to Colorado with me.
- mangosnot0
yea I lived in Denver for a few year, and I wish I could move back someday. Love Denver.
But also one of the benefits of Pittsburgh is that our downtown
is shaped like a Star Destroyer. And we drink like champions...everyday.

Go eat a burger with an egg and fries on it and wash it down with some Iron City light.
- mangosnot0
Ahh fuck some Iron City Light, Drink some Old German.
It's the bottom of the barrel of Iron City Beer. It's
like the hot dog of Pittsburgh beer. Plus, the logo
is the Fighting Irish sports mascot but with a leiderhosen (spellcheck?)
