So... on our way back from Toronto we're stopping in Pittsburgh for a day/night thing. Our main purpose for stopping is to go to a hungarian restaurant at night (reservations already made... supposedly a highly recommended experience) but I was wondering if there is anything cool to do downtown? Any cool shopping areas... we prefer the unusual... artsy districts... unique one-of-a-kind shops... etc... anything like that there?

what did you think of Toronto?

Haven't been yet... we're in the pre-planning stages. Going to August

I'm originally from Ohio - but I've been to Pittsburg (nicer in recent years that years past). Downtown has some nice parks and some newer architectural feats. The baseball stadium is brand new and has a nice view of the river/downtown. The team isn't that great - but who doesn't like baseball games. I know there's a Warhol museum there, but I haven't been to it.
Have fun!

You might find some shops on Carson Street or in Oakland (Pitt/CMU) that fit your interest. Too bad you weren't here next week as a bunch of cool stuff is happening for the Vintage Grand Prix.

Yeah, and you just missed the Arts Fest.
As for the Art Institutes gallery not too much is going on in there right now but you can check out their schedule since I am not sure when exactly you are coming in... http://www.artinstitutes.edu/pit…
Downtown pretty much closes around 5 or 6... not sure why. Though they are making attempts to keep people in the city after those hours.
Carson Street on the southside is interesting. It has some pretty cool little shops... The Warhol is a good time. Just do NOT get lost on the northside, we may never see you again. There is also the Phipps Conservatory in Oakland... http://www.phipps.conservatory.o…

Carson Street is definitely the type of place I'm looking for... it's in the area I'll be staying as well. Thanks TT

Actually... doing a street view on Google maps, Carson street looks pretty spread out... is it walkable? In comparing in with our Short North here in Columbus, the Short North is really compact... everything in easy walking distance. Looks like Carson street is more spread out...
- it's walkable. similar to the short north in some aspects. I miss columbus sometimessection_014
- Carson Street is spread out, but everything is between like 12-22nd. Other than that there is really nothing after the Birmingham and the Works.flavorful
- Birmingham and the Works (outdoor mall with like Urban Outfitters and restaurants).flavorful

The Warhol Museum is cool.......bit of a drive but you might want to consider a side trip to Fallingwater. Whatever you do, don't eat that horrible Primanti's sandwich. Yuck! Don't know why that place is famous........
- Don't listen to chup. Primanti's are the best sandwiches ever.section_014
- I live down the block from the Warhol and Mattress Factory!flavorful
- And fuck you, Primanti's is ridiculous! Pizza slices for a dollar?!flavorful

we'll be in on the 21st of August... have a reservation to eat here...
http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/0…PIT as a whole isn't exciting me a whole lot... doesn't seem like there is much to do. City closes shop similar to Columbus.

People in Pittsburgh tend to be really bummed out about losing the Stanley Cup, and then Hassa. So don't mention hockey. Or pucks. Or sticks. Or any words that have hockey connotations.
Or loser.

Make sure you hit up the Mattress Factory in the Mexican War Streets.
