I am happy to say that I finally got out of both of my phones with Sprint and will go with another carrier(AT&T)
Those guys at Sprint kept adding 2 years every time I would call up to find out how much I owed. Crooks! Sprint sucks so don't go down that path, you have been warned.
Hello 3G iPhone

where is tis 3G iphone coming from? is it out?
- acescence0

One step forward, three steps backwards...
AT&T is worst than Sprint. Atleast you can now enjoy the iPhone. I will not be getting an iPhone anytime soon, until Apple decides to sell to Verizon. Don't get me wrong all of the mobile carriers are evil bastards, Verizon is just a little less evil then the rest.

I really hope they open up to multiple providers in the US. I love T-Mobile and had bad range with Cingular here in Chicago.
It's really some monopolistic bullshit that AT&T is exclusive in the US. I read that they are going with T-mobile somewhere overseas.
I really might consider getting one this summer, but hate the thought of switching.

I don't have a cell phone, nor do I want one.
- As nice as the iPhone is, I refuse to deal with any cell carriers. Plus, AT&T is the only one that works here.ismith
- You're like an old geyser trapped in a child.flavorful
- devilman! hex the devilman with no mobile phone!!
you still rollin' with a pager or what?!lvl_13 - Hah, I got nothing but an iPod video and my laptop. Cells, like AIM, do little besides interrupt my life so I'd rather not pay to have another device like that.ismith
- have another device like that.ismith

I'm with Sprint. Too lazy to switch to AT&T despite the fact almost everyone I know has it.
Okay not everyone I knows has it.
The two people that I talk/message to constantly have it. Which makes my bills ridiculous. Especially with the texting because Sprint only has an option of 100 a month as opposed to unlimited like the fucking money grubbing motherfuckers they are.
- well then tell your probation officer and psychiatrist to limit their text messages or help with the bill...OSFA

iPhone with 2 yr contract will be $199 with discount from att?
http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/…
if this rumor is true then everyone will get one and use the savings to get out of their existing plans. Good time to buy their stock with all the new worldwide shit going on.
- dconstrukt0
what about an unlocked one?
can you use that with any carrier?
- no, def not sprint but maybe some others.Tark
- actually rafalski is right i think, it could be on any carrierTark
- they will work on any carrier. certain features may not work properly though.duckseason

I have a problem understanding why people think they need AT&T or any contract to get an iPhone. Especially Americans. All the world envies you. You can just go into the store, grab one for $400 and use it with any carrier without any problem or a contract. It's been planned this way.
What has been done to you people that makes you keep going about contracts, switchings and carriers?
I've been using iPhone since December. Mine came from the US. My gf's is from the UK. We both are on a carrier who doesn't sell it or support it. We have EDGE internet on it even if our carrier's customer service says it's not supported on the iPhone (it's just internet, simple settings, they're phone model agnostic). The phone is available in Ireland now but we would have to be seriously drunk to sign the contract - the Irish one is worst in the world actually.
I know Apple and mobile companies have strong marketing, but don't let them brainwash you like that. Just buy the thing and use it if you want it. It is easily and safely unlockable by a handful of software now. Hackers are competing with each other with the unlock and they're good. They know it better than Apple engineers now.
I believe Apple designed the phone this way. They want it to be hacked, unlocked and widespread. Had they really wanted to close it, they would have. Nokia E61 wasn't hacked for some 2 years because of the encryption Nokia had used. Do you think Apple couldn't do better?
- interesting postTark
- voiding the warranty of a $400+ phone isn't too appealing to me.duckseason

Well, forget the idea of getting an iphone this summer.
I hung out with Studderine tonight - he has an iphone and it was the first time I had an AT&T phone in my apartment since cancelling Cingular 3 years ago because of shitty service.
And guess what: there was no signal here. None.
I have T-Mobile now and looks like I'll be with them for awhile.
- please re-read rafalskis post!jevad
- helll yea!!studderine

There are drawbacks to having an unlocked, carrier free iPhone of course: there is no warranty if you don't activate the phone with the official carrier.
You cannot update phone firmware until each new version is taken care of with hackers. They've been quick recently though. For those who are afraid to jailbreak their AT&T or O2 handset, here's what unlocking software looks like:
"Refurbish" option restores the phone to factory, locked state if you need to use your warranty.

i got mine for graduation and i had it set up, so there was nothing i could do. however, mine is 'jailbroken' thus allowing all the coool shittz. but at&t sucks in general
