it also depends on what country you are from... the very concept of how design can be used has changed in the last 10 years. In the USA...it is more widely accepted as a vital tool for communication (selling the Man's goods)

I agree with canuck, it takes time to label a period, especially now. The last few movements I believe were numerous in a limited time-span. I mean the Bauhaus era... Then with the Abstract Expressionists, Dada, Fauvism, Pop, those weren't too far apart when compared to the Pre-Industrial Revolution age. I think the new movement will incorporate technology, obviously... How about if art just Died though? Who was the last person to have a great original impact on a huge scale, Pollack, Warhol... I don't even know, they haven't written the book yet...

if you consider the original Bauhaus/ Swiss style era modernism and the deconstructionist/ 80s/ 90s David Carson era postmodernism, then we are...postpostmodernism? Neomodernism?

Movement is interesting, I know de kooning, pollack, gorky, rauschenberg, koons, duchamp, johns, etc. hung out and challenged each other.... Warhol, Basquiat, Haring, probably the same... So I live in Manhattan near Chelsea, maybe I'm not getting out enough b/c of work but I never see artists around really... Williamsburg has a lot of people that look like artists... They "look the part," but I'm not sure how similar these times are to the past when it comes to creating a larger movement. But then again there are a few collectives out there. I haven't been to anyones studio lately, maybe thats more to do w/ rent issues in nyc. I think people wanting to become famous is much more so the case today in general... and thats it.
