Is there a name for the prevalent Design Movement of the day? I'm not asking for a particular style per se, but some sort of label to put on what we all are a part of in all the different disciplines within Design. Art has Realism, Pop art, Neoclassicism, etc. which is a reaction to the previous and so forth. But, what about Design. What would you classify as the Design Movement(s) of the present?

Anything "eco, green, or environmentally friendly"...

    • Really? I don't see this as being the over-arching expression of current design. If anything, the opposite. Sadly.detritus

It's not green. There are more "green" sites, in general, but most sites don't follow anything explicitly "green".

    • I mean design, not just sitesJaline

You mean to tell me that "going green" is not the latest design movement or trend globally? Everything from clothing/apparel, architecture, industrial design, automotive, energy/utilites and personal lifestyles have been greatly impacted by the "green revolution" worldwide.

    • Good point utopian.vnmbr1/10
True, but aren't we talking about design in particular?Jaline2/10
I mean, you could argue that everything is design, but that's too general for me.Jaline3/10
You're right, but I'm discussing things from the perspective of the first post.Jaline4/10
heh, it sounds like I am arguing with myself. I'm just posting things after reading the first post, and then yours over & overJaline5/10

all that stuff is design (wonders who is thinking of design as only graphic/web vs broader definition here...)ribit9/10

I don't think a style or period could be defined until a generation after it has ended (or some extended period of time).

    • This is like a trick idea. I like where you are going...Jaline1/2
True, I guess I'm just interested in what others thought of our time in Design History as it stands.vnmbr2/2

i cringe when i hear "new media"

    • But you can't really attach that to say Interior Design, Srchitecture, Clothing Design.vnmbr1/7
      *Architecturevnmbr2/7
why? It makes sense once you study it more. Unless you did :)Jaline3/7
new media refers to new channels of communication, not to a specific school or style. Am I wrong?Meeklo4/7
nope, you're right, for the most part. unless there is something I don't know.Jaline5/7
It could probably be a new style as well, but it actually means exactly what you think, "new media"Jaline6/7
I hate that word too. omfg.
