Another reason there might not be a select style or name for design today is because everytime there is an interesting look the advertising media completely rips it off and rapes the style until artist and viewers alike become so saturated with it they learn to hate it until something new comes out and the cycle repeats itself.

Arts and design are lost in a drunkenness of every kind of style and trend. The digital media has copied and reproduced everything made till now, mixing, mashing and blending. It will take time until this drunkennes is over, and then, on a world-scale hangover we'll know if this very period was on the heart of design or just in its rectum.

I think in general, strategy is returning as a known tool in a designer's repertoire. I think this is the single most powerful thing happening in design right now. Young business people get that good strategy = good design, for the most part.

I know what you mean about the design hiphop and the use of samples... the influence of the internet is huge and all those high res images can be re-worked as textures..Its awesome. Also we the internet is expanding collaboration methods to the limit. A very exciting and original time in design. Oh and everyone wants to be a damn rockstar designer now. Like kids and shit.
- that we isnt supposed to go there but wtvr..no editor.dskz

You can't really give it a proper name until after the movement has been around for some time, perhaps not even until it has passed and can be contextualized with the clarity of hindsight.
The only thing I can say about the current state of design is eclectic. Every style ever used is in vogue somewhere. I will say that I see a lot of historical revival/recontextualization, whether it's Victorian book typography or 70's style illustration. It's all fair game. There's a lot of design hip-hop going on (i.e. sampling, mixing & matching), although I doubt that's anything new.
