Has anyone used this new camera yet?

    Any opinion on it?

Has anyone edited AVCHD video yet? Is it a hog?

iMovie 8 does AVCHD. it looks good. I haven't done much with it though, only looked over my dad's shoulder as he was editing some clips. It worked nicely on a MacBook Pro 17" 2.33Ghz.

    • good thing it was a 17" *phew

I've heard the HV20 or 30 have a better sensor and have oodles of hacks available. They are tape based but its not the end of the world.

I unpacked the camera a couple of days ago and Im very impressed with it. Tapeless workflow is finally here. The video is clean, crisp, and around 1997 this thing would have been like 200,000 $.

Editing footage in Final Cut Pro 6.3 on a macbook pro 2.2 GHZ 4GB RAM

Editing is responsive, Im not struggling with full 1920x1080 resolution using Apple Pro Res Codec in the least bit.

I started editing for broadcast in 1998 on Avid systems, what is possible on a laptop system today is outstanding.

Here is footage captured and converted to 720x486 SD.
It has been color corrected using an adjustment layer in after-effects.

I just got an hv30, pretty awesome quality. I'm sure the HF10 is just as good.

HF10 is tapeless, you just drag the clips you record into your editor and...BAM! cradle rock style.

I can't decide between the HF-10 and the Sony HDR-SR12.

I've read that the HF-10 suffers from purple fringing but is a tad sharper than the Sony. The Sony one has 120gig of Harddrive and less noisy than the HF-10 in low light shooting.

Nice clip. Really great detail when you zoomed in on the eye. I been debating to drop the funds. It seems each time I am ready, Canon release a new model. I had the same damn issue with Apple. lol.
