STREETS great find, whenever I hear something related to education come to head the theories of Rudolf Steiner (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ru... and Waldorf education.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wal…
You can follow his trail after Itten, the Bahuaus, the Ulm school, and then in the words of J. Beuys, and even Jorge Oteiza ... I wish is fulfilled.
Thanks again for sharing!

Some of my dissertation and final project were related to the topics Ken Robinsons talk preaches about.
If this kind of thing interests you, you may want read up on someone called John Dewey (An American philosopher, psychologist and educational reformer)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joh…He has argues that education systems need to be a much more participatory / interactive process as opposed to passive lecturing. A lot of his opinions seem synonymous with Ken Robinson.
He makes mention of our evolutionary roots, and argues that the past and the way we have developed should naturally inform the way in which should teach children.

he has a good point but i wish he offered more of a solution. i wonder how he would propose to change the system. how do you find out what kids are good at/passionate about when they are 4-5 to put them on ideal education path. and what happens to the kids who are talented in an area they are not interested in?
- "how do you find out what kids are good at/passionate about when they are 4-5"
Let them do what they like playing at. You will be amazed at what that leads to.roundabout

what he said it made me think in the school system which they actually teach you 8 different material hoping that one or two will stick

I had an an argument with my Mother at the weekend over Nature vs Nurture. This came about because I took my baby daughter round to visit her and was bragging about her latest achievement (waving hello). My mother believes that we are all born with our skills, intelligence mapped out for us, stupid kids are born stupid and vice'a'versa. I believe the exact opposite. As the speaker points out - a new slant on this is that we are born with these skills/creative drives but they can - if we are not careful - be slowly drummed out of us.
Another thing to be paranoid as a Father!
