ideally i'd like for it to be perfect bound. but its not a very big book. perhaps 20 sheets at the most.

i am down with any simple technique.

can't do lulu or blurb because i am looking to make around 50 or so books. i'd like for the method to be affordable. and of course simple enough for someone as incompetent as myself to pull it off.

tara, after reading that tutorial about 3 times, i have to say that it looks brilliant. i think i just might opt for that. let's see how long it takes to make about 50 books using that method.

now for some web sites that sell cheap awls, needles and threaded wax. anyone?

go the sewing machine with a good paper weight and nifty thread colour it can look cool (honest) just means your design needs to sit away from the gutter a wee bit more than usual and it helps if you use a pre crease sheet..

i use binders glue and and then a strip of vinyl tape to cover up the mess i make with the glue. looks good and works well.

Also, I have plans for a wooden-bound book, somewhere. If you need to me try to dig it up, say the word.

    From Wood Magazine:
    http://www.brianlaw.org/misc/woo…

Their specific presentation is too tacky for me, but the mechanics of the article are solid.

I'd like to use this approach and burn the title, cover, etc.

    • For example, they're set on scapbooking pages, but you could use the leather hinges/post binding...blaw1/3
...approach with much better results by not relying on prefab pages.blaw2/3
Oh, and if I see you laminating a bunch of wood to make a striped cover I'll kill you. The 70s are dead.blaw3/3

    thenuge's book:

    http://imgdumb.com/files/3501.jpg

    his method:
"i used aluminum as the covers and then shear all the pages to be an 1/8 inch shorter on the end and two sides. then i use a couple c clamps to clamp it off the edge of a table a bit and apply a crap load of binders glue. you can get this at dick blick or art mart or michaels. once i have about 4 or 5 coats on i use a vinyl tape and just cut the edges off with a straight edge. these photos are of one that i used brushed aluminum for the covers and i used metal tape to cover the binding. a cool idea, but the tape is a bitch to work with and not as strong as the vinyl."

sorry 'bout the pic. it was a little dusty. it actually looks great! again, i would suggest using a painted aluminum vs. the brushed aluminum and also use a good vinyl to cover the bind vs. the metal tape. metal tape is really hard to work with.
