screw post is cool but not very functional. sometimes it does not lay flat.
handsewn is good, but how many pages is this thing going to be?
best is probably perfect bound.
you don't even need to set up layout for that, if you have contents. just trim the pages, put them under a press with some paste and you're good.
book making is a great tool, definitely learn how to do it!

For one of my graduation projects I handbound a book of 1536 pages (48 signatures of 8).. I had numb fingers for a week.

This is a great thread, I've been looking into book binding lately so thanks to all those who have posted tutorials and advice.

how about using an elastic band, no pics but it looks cool in the right context. Just cut little squares out at the top and bottom of the spine so it fits neatly.

I'd love to know how the elastic band binding works?

Heres a how to,
its a class, and the students ask a ton of questions which is annoying.

elastic band binding... super simple, when it fits the context of the book it looks good, but it depends what ur concept is i guess. couple of ways to do it, first get ur paper/pages printed as spreads, crease and slip ur elastic band over the top and to the spine. You can also cut notches out at the top and bottom as well which hides the elastic band better.

thank you all. this is great.
antigirl -- what kind of press and glue? the book i am trying to bind is not going to be very big. maybe 10-15 sheets at the most. and i am not sure what weight the paper will be but i will go with whatever works well with the kind of binding i opt for.
