Dear Apple/Mr Jobs.
I would like the love child of a MacBook Air and a MacBook Pro that includes a Blu-Ray superdouperdrive. Please make it so ASAP.Regards,
Dave.

Wow. I actually waited it out and almost bought one this weekend. I shall likely have one by the end of the week.
Really looking forward to making the switch from Windows.

what the difference between the old and new macbooks?
- Jaline0
More HD space and RAM or something.

Not much, but thank gawd I held out, these new Macbook Pros would be faster than a Dual Processor G5 with 4gb of Ram yeah?
- At most things, probably...kalkal
- get the 7200rpm drive thoughkalkal
- Is it noticeably faster though? Or not worth ditching my G5 just yet?mirrorball
- its never worth "ditching" a g5. but it would be a great design machine. what do you do mostly?zod

I won't be buying a Pro for another 6 months to a year since I just got my Macbook last summer. By then, I am hoping for awesome specs. Including Blu-Ray.

i'm getting the one in the middle.
- mirrorball0
Was thinking the middle one, it's not worth the extra £160 for just another .1ghz really, or is it? Bit shite that they don't even include the Apple Remote in the box!!

BTW - There are some ridiculous deals on MBP refurbs at the moment.
http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-…
Now that's all I need to do: tempt myself to get a refurb at low prices rather than the new one for $2,000.

I would buy a refurb. They're likely new unsold previous spec anyway. Get the top refurb and you're sorted, just make sure it's 2.4 not 2.33 as the latter is an older model (old chipset, wifi, display).
$1,649.00 is a good deal, just keep one word in mind: matte! :)- yes...Meeklo
- no glossy screen then?mirrorball
- I wish I'd spent the money on this rather than applecare that prevents me from doing it http://forums.macrum…rafalski

I was hoping for a big update..
like multi touch screen or something cool like that..not much happening here
- mirrorball0
Yeah same here! Not sure whether to sell the G5 now or just go out and get these ones, with new ones probably coming out around October - November 08

Still, very unimpressive update, just upping the specs. That design is 5 years old now.

It is a brilliant piece of metal, I just don't like the keyboard. This is what iPod from the same year looked like:

I love the way the "capital deficit per country" thread gets bumped by the "New ways to give Apple your money" thread.

Let's talk about this for a moment:
I'm making the switch from a 2003 built 2.0 Ghz Celeron with 1 GB Ram that is slowly dying. I'd love to not spend a fortune on a new computer, new software, etc and am trying to stay around $2K - $2.5K total.
I used the current MBP's at the store and they were great, so fast. I'd be using this at home 85% of the time with an external keyboard and mouse.
The new specs are great. I get a discount through work, and with tax am looking at $2,004 for the low end MBP.
But with the prices on refurbs, and knowing the huge improvement that will be over my current comp., it almost seems like the right thing to do - get a refurb. Hell, I'd almost get an imac and a macbook for better portability.
I could save a ton by getting a refurb - who has them and what was the quality like when you received it? Did you feel like you were getitng a brand new computer?
- I've not tried the multi-touch yet. Is that worth it? Is it a great, breakthrough thing?mg33
- i have gotten 3 refurbs in the past and had 0 problems.....all of them were just like a brand new one.linearch
- ie. ipods must get new casings as they get new serial numbers which are engraved.rafalski
- what new parts come in refurb computers? Any?mg33
- they look and work 100% new, that's all we know. the rest is apple's secretrafalski
- do it. had my last iPod and it works fine. never heard anything bad. sometimes they come with more in it than describedpascii

I saw refurb ipods and macbooks - looked and worked like 100% new. The boxes they come in are grey though. Some say, you're less likely to get a dead pixel on a refurb, as they're well tested.
- i got a refurb that had about 10 dead pixels. apple replaced it no questions asked, but the replacement had a dead pixel as well.effort
- but, the only time i notice the dead px is when a DVD is firing up and the screen is 100% blackeffort
- otherwise it works like a charm and looked just like new -- gray box aside.effort
