On the plus side of the UK, I've got tickets to see Nick Cave, The Breeders and Mudhoney this year.
That rocks.

any place that serves warm beer and invented pubs is all right by me. I love the fact that i can go for a walk in the hills and every mile or two there will be a pub full of ale pies and pork scratchings. Now that is civilization.

We should be having this debate in a country pub drinking real ale and eating sausage and mash out of a giant Yorkshire pudding.
- thats the ticket
migy - Imagine that, all of us sat inside a giant yorkshire pudding eating sausages and drinking ale.Spookyhome

You get out of it, what you make of it.

"so Im hearing from everyone that lives there that the country is going to the dogs, rampant with drunken coked up chavs, the streets aren't safe and theres no real hope of owning a home unless you do so already because of the price. 5/6 quid for a packet of cigs and 9dollar gas - how is it there for you? I left a long time ago, but might be going for a visit."
Are you sure you aren't talking about Vancouver?

For all I slag off what the UK has become, I miss it a lot too, but I'm wondering if it's because I've not experienced living with fucking scumbags for so long that I've forgotten how truly miserable I was there.
Me (US) wife wants to move over there like I did over here but then the pair of us would have to file and pay taxes in two countries and I don't know if I want to give 50% of my money away every year.

Things I miss about Edinburgh (no particular order)...
Real pubs with real beer where you don't have to worry about servers being pissy about tips
The chippy (haggis supper with salt & sauce)
Full cooked breakfast in the pub on a Sunday
Being able to drive 1.5 hours and be in beautiful surroundings
Not having to need a driver's licence to do the simplest of tasks
The simplicity of banking and basic money management
People not asking me to repeat myself several times when they can't understand my accentThe list goes on...
- Fuck I would miss all those really realy badly, plus proper British curries from a take away too.Spookyhome
- Oh jesus, I forgot about curry, there's hardly any good places over here.5timuli
- i miss those things, and i am not from there, and live here FFS...madirish
- you must be in a shit part of canada if you can't drive for 1.5 hours and be somewhere beautiful.paraselene

Phew yeah, you don.t want to be doing that. Is there no way round it? Like having a registered business in the US of State and doing all your finances through that but being satellited over here?
Not that I think you should comeback here... I'd rather be over there.
- The US tax 'global income' so they tax any earnings made outside the country.5timuli

ha ha ha you are looking at cars for sale :D nice one spooky!! I looked on pistonheads for mine :)
I don't care about the price of fuel it's a great laugh burning it in my car.
- Spookyhome0
Always on Pistonheads. I start off looking at one thing... eg FTO, then think, "Oooh, but maybe a scubi" and then "Or and Evo" and from there... "A T5 would rock for camping" and on to "A mad black XR4 revamped would be harcore" and on and on, and at about 4.30am this morning I'll end up back where I started chcking out the FTOs again.

As an Australian living in Australia, I am sorry I missed the start of this thread. All that stuff about chavs, house prices and petrol are all true here too.

I have always had a soft spot for these, also I like mgf's, I'll probably hold onto my car for another year or so then I'll sell it and get something else, want an evo :D
