hmm, don't know what its like living in England, but I like where I live (apart from the rain, but I sort of like the rain too, always have).
I've live abroad in the sun with the good cheap living and food and I missed britain's edge. Its important that edge, its always been here and its a big contribution to its creativity and the pace of its culture. I find nice safe places helluva boring to be honest.
I'd need to mainline adrenaline to live in most countries in europe for example.
(equally I fucking hate 90% of the place, obviously)

I sometimes miss the UK although I haven't been back in years. Lots of Brits out here in Australia. Australia would be awesome if it wasn't so fricking far away from everything. A blessing and a burden.
- you're not mentioning snakes, spiders and sharksrafalski
- and australianskelpie
- Beat me to it Kelpie.Spookytim
- People dont seem to be dying from snake bites, spider bites ok the odd shark has a nibble but people rarely die.slappy
- People over here are more harmed by the same things as the UK and US, being fatslappy
- rarely dieing would surely make the agony of living w aussies all the more acute, no?kelpie
- Aussies are ok, sure some of them dress badly and arn't that clever but they are friendly and can hold their booze.slappy
- what does "spiders ok" actually mean? "ok they do kill ppl but sharks and snakes rarely do"?rafalski
- Put it this way, Aussies blend in when in Paris if US tourists are around :) Learnt first hand.slappy

Far as I can tell after growing up in Manchester, Living in Australia, Dublin and London, and travelling most of the world, the UK is one of the best places to live.
The UK rocks. Sure things are expensive, but you get what you pay for. Remember all those immigrants coming in are coming for a reason, can't be that bad. Fuck if nothing else we're in a better place than the French.
I have a house, so i'm lucky, I must admit the thought of buying in London today is pretty much impossible unless you go over 300k, and thats for a crack den in Dalston.
Remember for every town centre full of Chavs there are 20 nice villages and towns around it.

Not true kezza. I just got away with 200k and I didn't even have a job when I managed to wangle that.
I like sunny places too, but to be really honest, I couldn't cope with fucking table service like you get everywhere else. I want my beer NOW, and I want to finish it and get the fuck out of there. Not wait 15 minutes for the bill, consequently sober up and develop a micro hangover, and then have to tip the lazy bastard.
No way.
I'm staying put.

Also the UK's ace, because you can clearly get credit.... buy now pay tomorrow :)
- moth0
No one I know buys a house out-right though Kezza.

- LOLmaximillion_

- That's more or less the same for all the immigrants. Sorry gotta go to eat my Pasta now.Fariska
- are you going snorkeling in the afternoon Fariska?rafalski
- Yeah, in the wonderful lake of Victoria ParkFariska

i love the british islands. every time i am over there, i meet great and funny people, it's not more or less crappier than anywhere else.
but switzerland, i tell you, it's so clean, silent, tiny that i really enjoy to go to places like Berlin, London and such. Just to see, how normal people live
- smellvetica0
Yup, it's true, England is shite at taxes, education, housing, general overpriced commodities, politics and most certainly most sport. That's coming from a Welshman.
- you did alright on sundaymaximillion_

sometimes i think about moving away, but i wouldn't be able to survive on mainland europe and when i tried to go to back to new york it was like i had developed an allergy to the place, i totally got hives.
this is it, i guess. best town ever, that's what everyone's been saying.

I just came back to expensive Dublin from an extended weekend in expensive London. It seemed allright - bad weather, worse food, Mary fukn Poppins..
Actually the food - Thai, Indian and Chinese - was great. If anyone's concerned, there is a wide choice of all kind of non-English food you might want (especially bread) available in stores so that should be covered.
The tube is expensive as hell but bearable outside the most congested hours. Even buses seemed to run on time, to my surprise.
London seemed far from going downhill. Its unconcealable and grande shitness comes from things spinning well and fast it seems. It's a busy bee hive. What I cannot stand on both of these islands is the unbelievable crapness of housing. Even the expensive (like every place isn't) houses/apartments seem to be built from cardboard and plaster with a few bricks added for looks. They make strange noises and never keep heat longer than 15 minutes after the radiator's off. Double glazed windows seem to be luxury. Places built in 2007 still come with split hot/cold water taps which is way far beyond my understanding of things.
Americans probably wouldn't understand what I am talking about either. Irish and British only understand if they've been in a Swedish house in Winter. On the Old Continent houses are built from things closer to bricks and concrete I'd say. They just feel.. I think solid is the word. Some people say it's because weather is mild on The Islands so you don't need to worry about freezing Winters. Just go to sunny Spain where ppl hardly ever see any snow and see what they've been building for centuries: solid stuff!- er.. can't tell if that was sarcasm, but Spanish construction's generally pretty goddamn far from 'solid stuff'detritus
- I have been to Sweden, never felt cold there. Cheap lake houses too.slappy
- That's what I mean slappy - Irish who've been to Sweden understand what foreigners complain about here.rafalski
- construction is decaying everywhere. nice solid houses built til early 1900's (shit even 1950's) are no more.Corvo
- not everywhere in the UK has the same architectural tradition. Up here its as solid as solid gets. Victorian tenements in the main. and built up, rather than outkelpie
- ...main, and built up, rather than out. Big, big plus, that.kelpie
- Need to investigate Scotland.. Spanish construction isn't best, but what I've seen beats the UK average (as I know ofc.)rafalski
- i like the split tabs -- i absolutely hate when there is only one tap.pr2
- kezza_20
London isn't the UK, completely different to the rest of the UK. For the better and the worse
- moth0
rafalski - my house was built in 1890 and is pretty damn solid.
- So you say. Let's organize a qbn housewarming inspection, may I suggest.rafalski
- No chance.moth
- ok, here's the deal: you give us the address, we'll just party peacefully on your yard. it'll be nice, we'll have laughs..rafalski
- *WhoIs fingers moth's domain to get address, sets up MySpace party page, sits back and waits*detritus

its not bad but i would agree it is getting worse the country is being run by people that have no idea, it a little like every job I've had there always someone running the show with no idea

For the most part, the words in this thread are born of media manipulation.
