every single poster/flyer/collateral kdu ever produces is some disgusting poster full of squishy italic type with lots of ugly hieroglyphic type of chopped + pasted details.
- I disagree. as a designer it's fine work. But its for themselves and work that surrounds itself is insipid. in my opinion.Iggyboo

Actually i have no problem that they create stuff.
its taste and everybody has a different one.
my personal stance is that you can compare this with those
psychedelia graphics from the seventies.
its eyecandy, its very contemperary but its not design
but it has its merits....- What is considered to be "design" is subjective, if you ask me.Jaline
- not really.
what we do is based upon craftmenship, so its subjective...tank02 - It's kind of like the argument of what is "art" though. I think a lot of it is crap, but others may like it.Jaline
- it's all about idea's. as a curator here once said: it doesn't matter if something is rated art or not, it's about ideas and context and substance.9832892398
- substance. these days designers can be artists, rockstars, dj's, directors, photographers and vice versa9832892398

It's like the kids at Yayhooray who talk about hipsters and fail to see how Threadless was made by the same people.

i think it's more funny how they cant stand criticism of any kind whatsoever. son just made himself look like a child, and hes supposed to represent this upstanding global... fraternity?...
- lifterBARON0
You still haven't made it clear where you get your experience from.. ??? Sorry I thought noted where there to be used for poop like that.. what evs..
- what evs indeed.killerqueen
- Apparently you didnt take my question seriously?lifterBARON

we are using design, business innovation and the groups gravity and connections to help people. The work we are doing in Africa is significant, whether it works or not, we are pushing attention to a region that needs help. When we get opportunities to speak at events or in the press, we dont self promote, we push issues that we feel need to be investigate and discussed. again, I care about our agenda, not someone that would slander people on a blog out of pure confusion.
- what work is the KDU doing in Africa, out of interest? (I'm staying out of this argument)detritus

I have made mistakes before and approached things from the wrong angle. I understand this now. I only wanted to engage the design community and interact. I went about this the wrong way and became aggressive at times. I was a product of my environment, but luckily I was able to surround myself with people that mentor me and show me alternative paths. I am now part of a global family that is trying to only unite the planets best designers, artists and innovators to create progressive work. What you call a "hype machine" - we call gravity. Without this "hype" -
we are voiceless. We use our voice to attack important topics, such as over consumption and decaying value systems. We want to make people aware of how various industries work from the inside out... and yes, we do want to profit as a group. Nothing that we do attacks people or harms people in any way. It is illogical for you or anyone to attack something that is not directly attacking you or harming others. It seems like your ill will against me, dave or others in the group is motivated by jealousy or insecurity. I learned that I can change and that sharing a larger agenda (not pursuing only my ego's desires) bring me great joy. I hope one day you find something in your life that brings you a similar happiness and sense of purpose.

this thread and the jesse jenson thread are what marlon brando meant at the end of apocalypse now

for those that have been following or may just have the wrong perception - the KDU is hardly a bunch of graphic designers. The group is made up of a wide variety of creative and professional people. the group now has a good number of lawyers, mbas, strategists, business owners, fashion designers, entertainers, athletes, industrial designers - and most recently is moving towards various political organizations and charities. you can learn more about the activities on the various company blogs.

"We use our voice to attack important topics, such as over consumption and decaying value systems. "
Here's a decaying value system for you: Buying into the hype. You're so far in you can't even see the shit that surrounds you.
David Gensler/TheKDU put out a couple brochure-like magazines (The Royal), has a fashion-student make a not-in-production fashion line (SVSV....I'm talking all prototypes there) and leeches off the real-world work of designers and artists (As evidenced in my first post)
Seriously, they don't DO anything! It's a glorified version of DepthCore....a loose collection of designers who think slapping the same logo on their work means "fraternity" or some shit.

@son:
I do not know you and you do not know me but in your first post, in this topic of course, you have shown us what types of people create KDU.
Oh, by the way -- I do not trust the KDU ;).Peace.
- son0
it is shameful and little to attack someone's creative style. What is
to gain? what point is being made? are you upset that all the opportunities made available to the KDU are not there for you? all the press... the shows... the brands... the projects...?these things are there not only because of the groups talent base,
they exist because of deep rooted industry connections established
over many years - the KDU moves forward because its supporters trust that the projects and interaction with the members will go smoothly and respectfully.- TheKDU "moves forward" because the only overhead they have is $1 a month hosting.killerqueen

I think Tommy said it best K D WHO! Lens flairs and outer glows have blinded raw forms of visual communication.
- lifterBARON0
now I'm curious to see who killerqueen was referencing.. I dont think I am the best at all.. far from it.. BUT, i would like to see the shit talkers portfolios..

all true. youre not responding to the fact that KDU in and of itself produces nothing. it only aggregates the compiled experimental "fun" works of a loose bunch of designers all over the place.
and the comment about the fashion line is true too. ive seen one photograph of some "exclusive" rings, and a chair with designs engraved on it. is that it?
when or where has KDU connected a single designer with a large-name client? when has KDU organized a team of 10 designers for a pitch to a big brand, and won it? it really is nothing more than "collecting" all the random shit these people make and throwing the KDU logo on it. what ELSE does it ACTUALLY DO.
