If Derek started a company, it would be the KDU.
Yeah, David Gensler/TheKDU actually lists the clients of a bunch of loosely-collected designers and artists as their own. wtf.

That's because it's a hype machine. It's not any different than DepthCore to be honest...lots of artists, designers, many of the same ones in the KDU, knocking out some experimental and fun projects for giggles.
It's just that DepthCore doesn't pretend it's some international company.

And I fucking dare that Flavor-flav KDU hypeman "son" to come in this thread.

it is shame that idiots that know nothing about the structure or operations of an organization and company have the balls to actually comment. congratulations on having enough time to write your dribble and not matter. the "hype" created is because it is just that damn good... we will keep doing "us" and you can keep doing you... obscure and unknown, stuck comfortably in those dark shadows. now spout back some shit about Dave sucking or being a fraud or the client list not being real or some other stupid shit... and once again.. we will keep shining and progressing and you WILL STILL BE WORTHLESS AND UNKNOWN. We put out more projects around the world than any other group. We attract the best of the best for a reason. The best part about being "us" is that we know it pisses off people like "you". This brings us great joy. thanks for having no talent, vision, competitive nature or a fucking opinion worth paying attention to. It is shame that your jealously makes you so transparent and predictable. Being predictable should be a crime... you are a broken record. Change it up and CHALLENGE US... we will gladly destroy you. from the heart and soul of the fake ugly hype monster know as the KDU.

Son you need to realize you're at the bottom of this ladder, not the top. 3 years ago you were just learning Photoshop and begging for a "position" with the KDU.
Now what do you do? You fucking BLOG for them! Wow, way to go dude! You type stuff on newstoday and CPLUV! You are so cool!
Truth is, you're still the talentless little boy you were just a little time ago, except now your ego has grown monstrous because you get to blog for the KDU. Don't you see how silly that is?

Actually i have no problem that they create stuff.
its taste and everybody has a different one.
my personal stance is that you can compare this with those
psychedelia graphics from the seventies.
its eyecandy, its very contemperary but its not design
but it has its merits....

I have made mistakes before and approached things from the wrong angle. I understand this now. I only wanted to engage the design community and interact. I went about this the wrong way and became aggressive at times. I was a product of my environment, but luckily I was able to surround myself with people that mentor me and show me alternative paths. I am now part of a global family that is trying to only unite the planets best designers, artists and innovators to create progressive work. What you call a "hype machine" - we call gravity. Without this "hype" -
we are voiceless. We use our voice to attack important topics, such as over consumption and decaying value systems. We want to make people aware of how various industries work from the inside out... and yes, we do want to profit as a group. Nothing that we do attacks people or harms people in any way. It is illogical for you or anyone to attack something that is not directly attacking you or harming others. It seems like your ill will against me, dave or others in the group is motivated by jealousy or insecurity. I learned that I can change and that sharing a larger agenda (not pursuing only my ego's desires) bring me great joy. I hope one day you find something in your life that brings you a similar happiness and sense of purpose.

for those that have been following or may just have the wrong perception - the KDU is hardly a bunch of graphic designers. The group is made up of a wide variety of creative and professional people. the group now has a good number of lawyers, mbas, strategists, business owners, fashion designers, entertainers, athletes, industrial designers - and most recently is moving towards various political organizations and charities. you can learn more about the activities on the various company blogs.

"We use our voice to attack important topics, such as over consumption and decaying value systems. "
Here's a decaying value system for you: Buying into the hype. You're so far in you can't even see the shit that surrounds you.
David Gensler/TheKDU put out a couple brochure-like magazines (The Royal), has a fashion-student make a not-in-production fashion line (SVSV....I'm talking all prototypes there) and leeches off the real-world work of designers and artists (As evidenced in my first post)
Seriously, they don't DO anything! It's a glorified version of DepthCore....a loose collection of designers who think slapping the same logo on their work means "fraternity" or some shit.

@son:
I do not know you and you do not know me but in your first post, in this topic of course, you have shown us what types of people create KDU.
Oh, by the way -- I do not trust the KDU ;).Peace.

it is shameful and little to attack someone's creative style. What is
to gain? what point is being made? are you upset that all the opportunities made available to the KDU are not there for you? all the press... the shows... the brands... the projects...?these things are there not only because of the groups talent base,
they exist because of deep rooted industry connections established
over many years - the KDU moves forward because its supporters trust that the projects and interaction with the members will go smoothly and respectfully.

Take a look at theKDU's "Work" section of their site. Half the "Work" were posted on DepthCore first. The other half is just shit for the KDU's own little projects that barely manifest beyond the blogs and maybe a press release.
How can you count a bunch of Photoshop experiments as "work"????

all true. youre not responding to the fact that KDU in and of itself produces nothing. it only aggregates the compiled experimental "fun" works of a loose bunch of designers all over the place.
and the comment about the fashion line is true too. ive seen one photograph of some "exclusive" rings, and a chair with designs engraved on it. is that it?
when or where has KDU connected a single designer with a large-name client? when has KDU organized a team of 10 designers for a pitch to a big brand, and won it? it really is nothing more than "collecting" all the random shit these people make and throwing the KDU logo on it. what ELSE does it ACTUALLY DO.

your site and work and attitude are such that no one of any great weight will take you serious.
and depthcore and justin maller are proud and loyal, long standing members of the KDU.
the actual client work produced in studio is mostly visible on the blog... or for clients. you are humiliating yourself saying the brands are not real. have you visited the 5000 square foot brooklyn headquarters?
have you seen the presence at market?
NO! because you are no importance to anyone, including yourself.
how about we keep doing "us" and you keep trying to figure things out on your own.
thanks.

.... like i said, name a big client the KDU has assembled any sort of work for. your a global fraternity right? supposed to bring designers together to work on big projects? name a big project. show me something completed that the KDU actually BROUGHT to its members, rather than taking existing work and throwing a logo on it.
ill be waiting patiently.

for the kid that thinks he knows so much about our business.
the entire KDU just relaunched URB magazine with great success. rebranded the Sport and Street section of Bread and Butter, produced original work for the Untitled exhibition in Spain.
completed campaigns for Triple 5 Soul, as well as a dozen other major client projects, which if you actually worked in the industry you would realize you dont openly push out every single project the second it is done.another note to the brilliant computer kids that are now suddenly business experts... if the competition does not know where to aim or what to aim at, they cant fire upon you. As long as the members, the government, the investors and the clients are happy... we are happy. anyone outside those four groups can... well can remain "outside". The KDU is a private group for a reason. Since we are not actually "selling" YOU anything... we suggest you use some higher logic and move on.
thanks again.
one.
