I don't think TheBlueOne likes Stephen King much ... hmmmmm
1408 wasn't too bad either for a feature length movie based on one of his stories
I just saw Firestarter the other day holyshit ...

this is obviously the religiously fanatical vs what they don't understand or what doesn't directly relate to the bible ie. The Mist.

(Nov 6 07, 12:37)Exactly..and there is that vague sense in most of his novels, which on top of the hack writing never made it bery horrorful to me...made it seem like a punch and judy show with melted puppets or something...

Look you want horror read Clive Barker or dig up some old and still classic Lovecraft or Poe...King is a moralist who writes about spooky boogie men getting the bad people...nothing horrific about it for anyone over the age of 12 - in fact his stories make "logical" sense and the best and most real horror is about confronting the irrational with only logical or limited tools..

"The Stand" gets pretty slow in the middle, but otherwise I really liked it. Breaking modern society down and then tracking the months that follow... that's a hell of a feat to pull off.
TBO, I figured you'd give that book a nod just for the Anthrax connection.
I liked "The Stand" so much that when I read "Cell" I thought, "ah, bullshit. You only end one end-times storyline, ya cheater."

I'm a big fan of Barker, Lovecraft and Poe, too. Those are very different writers.
For example, Clive Barker writes more fantasy (primary). Poe defines the horror genre's short story for me. And while Lovecraft is well-rooted in the occult, King writes a lot more suspense-oriented stories set in modern times.

Just saw this last night. Was fucking phenomenal. One of the better Stephen King movies (not the best... but up there with the good ones).
If you like horror/monster movies, this is highly recomended.

My major hang up with the movie was the ending, which was rewritten from the original. So as not to spoil it, I'll bitch over there ->
- ...blaw
- The book had them get the fuck out of dodge and take control of their own destiny, same as the movie.blaw
- However, in the book they started picking up radio stations, etc., and left you with the "we're not out of the ...blaw
- ...woods yet" feeling, but with a lot of hope. Enough to drive home the point: Don't get forced around by other ...blaw
- ...people's madness." In this, the whole, "everyone's dead! fuck you, you blew it!" take pissed me off.blaw
- And then it was rushed (immediately there are troops, etc. around), because it would've taken a while to ...blaw
- ... set that up properly. A chance to send a solid message and they blew it, I say.blaw
- i totally agree. Though, I haven't read the book (i will now). The ending was very weak...OnesandZeros
- I didn't believe that they were actually going to commit suicide. WTF? that totally contradicts their actions up until that pointOnesandZeros
- i love that cthulhu passes over their car. fucking amazing.OnesandZeros
- I, too, liked the aspect that they were safe inside the car. Much safer than at the grocery store. Again, symbolically ...blaw
- ... sending a good message about bravery, complacency, and fanaticism.blaw

I finally saw the Mist and liked how it turned out.
The only way for the true ending to have worked would be for this to be shot handicam style, and we've had enough of that for now.

Exactly what the hell is it all about at the end they fought and fought and fought up until they ran out of gas and then thought ah fuck it lets end it all.
I hate shit like that mainly because I never give up on things I fight until I have done it :D like climbing I go back and back until I have climbed what I set out to climb.- Exactly.blaw
- yeah.. that pissed me off.
i just started climbing recently. I love it! Done mostly indoor bouldering - for now.OnesandZeros - I think we should get a place together blaw I am for realsies.chossy
- Society still frowns upon two guys that live together and make their own furniture.blaw
- And when I say "society" I mean "my old man".blaw
- ha ha he would beat us then cut us then beat cut us then kill our faces off.chossy
- ahahaha...blaw
