Its good to be back home after being in Pisco (the epicentre - 8.0 on Richter scale) while the fucker started. It was a wild ride and lots of people died, but me and my girlfriend were some of the lucky ones who managed not to get crushed by falling buildings.
Hooray for life.

I was used to smaller ones, like 3.0 - 4.0, but holy fuck does the ground shake at 8.0! Its really underscribable.

the one i was first in was this one in Big Bear Arizona and it was i think 7.9 but i remember CalTech had it registered at 8.1 but the govt didnt want to pay for it so they said it was 7.9 or something liek that ...in 1990 or 91 i ferget...but i dont that i was on the freeway comming back from san diego zoo and all the carss on the road shifted 3 lanes to left in a second and thank god there was those HOV lanes...
how long was the main shock last for?? also how large were the after shocks?? must have been bigger than 3-4 scary!!

Well, it shook like hell. We were inside our hostel room (came back from the main square after supper). It started shaking at 6:41om and then every light went out (in Peru its winter, so right now, its dark at 6pm), so we were getting thrown around in pitch black. Then I grabbed my GF who just kept on screaming and I brought her under the doorway with me. We waited till everything stopped shaking (2 minutes), and then started runing for the exit. Then, when we got out, it was chaos... Dust, rubbles, wounded and dead people getting carried by familys and stuff...
We slept in a farmer's field with some czech tourists we met and the next day we walked till we could find a bus to go back to Lima.
We were at the Machu Picchu 3 days after...
