html web design, in particular, seems more akin to clerical work

(Jun 6 07, 12:41)Yes, I do end up doing lots of clerical work, but it's amazing how much other people don't know about the web or the internet. It's nice to be able to teach people things about it, including html, design, and coding.

What in the fuck is the internet?!?!
- Rand0
kyle, you're not workring for ysef anymore?
- Jaline0
But I do enjoy doing it, particularly the html part. It is immensely satisfying when you finally figure out one part of a code and you spent around 5-6 hours trying to clean it up and make it work.
Of course, this could happen at nearly every job.

Inspiring work. Boring site. Inspiring Portfolio.
Honestly...what's with the trend of firms like kni, doing all HTML? They based most of their portfolio on cutting-edge Flash sites. Why couldn't they do an all Flash site with just as much usability and updateable content?
- Jaline0
The point is more towards showcasing the work, isn't it...
- material-10
took a fulltime gig about 9 months ago but still have clients that I do work for. and the occasion agency work to pad the bank account.
- Rand0
why does everybody assume a flash site can't showcase work just as clearly and simply--that's just silly
- version30
the old kni site was a flash portfolio with a cms that showcased their work just nicely
i believe internally, they were ready for a change
- jr_fartbox0
yea, kni is sweet. but i can't wait for the unveiliing of COACH PIXELRANGER's Genesis Project!!!!1!!111~@

Yeah but hasn't the dead horse been beaten enough? The trend of Vertical-Scrolling-HTML sites is boring and most of all, I don't feel it shows as much personality. That's one of the main factors when hiring an individual. It's not "I'm gonna slap every freakin site I've worked on since I was wetting my diapers here."
It's about quality, personality, individual style and concept.
My two cents.

paul, don't you mean, your 2Cents?

The trend of Vertical-Scrolling-H TML sites is boring?
uh what?
there are some basics to the technology that should remain inherently.
we read left to right top to bottom, a vertical scrolling site is appropriately matched to our culture as it is also how we read our books, magazines, newspapers.
there is still a steering wheel and 4 wheels with a car, just like the first models, do drive forward, it's not like carts are rolling down the street sideways
i mean would you have rather scrolled side to side to read this to make sure the height remained static?

i got 2 going the other direction, d.
good design is good design- period. to say that this current site displays none of their "quality, personality, individual style and concept" is pretty wack, IMO.
they are a conceptual group, w/ great finishing and usability; all qualities this sites' aesthetics shine with.
