LOL Gotta love the current CNN headline:
Falwell's legacy -- faith, hate or Teletubbies?

I feel the need to say this after most of these threads:
What you people do in your lives doesn't effect me one bit, until you try to dictate society by your ancient beliefs.
Anyone that fuses religion and politics is doing a major disservice to both.
Sorry if I offended anyone but James Dobson, Falwell and Robertson are all cut from the same cloth.

I have never murdered anyone, so I have no blood on my hands. What a fire and brimstone thing to say, gramme.

(May 15 07, 14:43)But you've looked at dirty pictures, right? Maybe boinked a girl or two before getting married? Dipped into the office donut kitty? Cheated on your taxes?
Sinner!!!!

If you have never made a mistake in your life, then everything I have ever said about the above issues doesn't apply to you. Feel free to ignore me.
I think you know better, unfortunately. Perhaps that's why you are so prolific in every thread remotely related to any subject that carries the faintest whiff of Christianity. But hey, I can't read your mind so I could be wrong.

Meanwhile, back to the topic at hand:

Helluva guy...I can see why he could call the White House over successive Administrations and chat with the Leader of the World. You know, just like you and me...

" Who are we to write truth?"
can this be said of the bible?
- madirish0
"What fuckups we are! Who are we to write truth?"
we are the only ones here, man. it is ours and ours alone to fuck up or make better for the unknowns that may or may not come after us.
"Give me a god that is stronger than me. Even if God as many people know him doesn't exist, I'd rather go on believing at least in the idea of him, because I make a shitty deity. So does everyone else I have ever met."
this is my point exactly; why have dieties? who needs them? what do they do for people on a practical level other than 'something to believe *in*'? i have no use for them logical, or otherwise and believe me, i have tried. i do not want to be a diety, nor do i want another being, human or not, to be as such.
just as a side point; the term 'postmodern philosophy' bugs the shit out of me predominately because it is based on the assumption of a pre/post 'christ' date. people had these beliefs long before this movement and were ended because of it. yes it 'took' greek thinkers and culture to label such, but the basis for critique has been there as naturally as humans had envolutionary thought, and sexual behaviors.
i also want to just say thank you for the stimulating discussion. i respect all views put here in equal terms, some, IMO, can do it with the discussion in mind and not the person better than others. on all sides of the critique.

This is the thing that frightens me so much about popular postmodern philosophy. The idea that truth is relative and that the only moral or theological measuring stick is one's own personal scruples.
What fuckups we are! Who are we to write truth?
Give me a god that is stronger than me. Even if God as many people know him doesn't exist, I'd rather go on believing at least in the idea of him, because I make a shitty deity. So does everyone else I have ever met.
We all worship something or many things, but at the end of the day it's primarily ourselves. We are the ultimate source of truth. We are the masters of our destinies. Things exist or fail to exist based on whether we choose to acknowledge them. This is the prevalent philosophy of today, in a nutshell.
Like I said, it's frightening, and it makes me sad.

and gramme, which city would you feel safer in, toykyo or jerusalem?
lemmys_wart
(May 15 07, 14:15)What's your point? Jerusalem is practically filled with violent Israeli nationalists and fundamentalist Muslims. I fail to see what on earth this has to do with violence perpetrated by Christians.

I have no blood on my hands and I am not a sinner.

yes i have gramme, but none of those things are 'sin' because 'sin' is a ficticious word/concept/idea to my being.
i do not believe in sin.
i do not believe in any form of organized religion.
i have studied organized religions extensively in school.
i think these qualities exist outside of any sort of 'religion' and it's beliefs.
i could very well agree with that son, who knows. if i had odds with someone, it would be with their being a human and not due to, nor influenced by any sort of religious falicy coined as 'sin'.

(May 15 07, 14:04)So, you've never disliked anyone then? Said something rude? Thought something rude? Gotten into a fight? Lied? Stole?
If you had a son who developped a drinking problem, you would disagree with his actions but still love him, yes?
- BonSeff0
yeah, lemmy,
cause the bible is truth.
