that's a good question, mrdobolina. I don't think one should repress and try to ignore it. For the reasons you cite. I think one should either embrace it and live it out, or seek to overcome it.

The Christians I know, including myself, love homosexuals. They are sinners like myself. Doesn't mean I have to endorse the lifestyle they choose.

(May 15 07, 13:34)this is sick to read, man.
"The Christians I know, including myself, love homosexuals."
- so then no Christians can be or are homosexuals?"They are sinners like myself."
- why? why assume everyone is a 'sinner' (whatever that means to your sect of christianity)? oh, wait- you explained that one before; this is the idea that we are born with 'sin' and hence 'god' producing 'jesus' to atone for said 'sin' and acting as a model by which 'christians' need to follow to properly be cleansed of sin. this is the only time i can remember of being able to cut the cake and then choose the slice you eat."Doesn't mean I have to endorse the lifestyle they choose."
- by "they" are you referring to homosexuals or 'sinners'?
- flagellum0
ok bye
- gramme0
I'm not a sinner.
mrdobolina
(May 15 07, 13:35)Just curious, how would you define a "sinner"?

gramme
(May 15 07, 13:50)someone who follows the christian faith... you are all sinners, right?

madrish:
- Depends on how you define "homosexuality". The term is not so black and white. The Bible teaches that anyone who places their faith in Jesus as the atonement for their sin, is a Christian, at that very moment and into eternity. But the Bible also teaches that once someone is Christ's, their desires change. They seek to please God and forsake inclinations that are not in line with His plan for their life. So, I believe that someone can struggle with homosexual desires and be a Christian. But I'm skeptical of those who claim to be Christians and who embrace an openly gay lifestyle. Because this would indicate that they are not being transformed into the likeness of Christ, which is what happens once someone has entered a relationship with Jesus.
- By "they" I was speaking of homosexuals.

Romans 3:23:
"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God"

Yes sorry, my comment was meant for Falwell.

ok bye now.

does the bible actually mention homosexuality?
- gramme0
about 8 million "christians" might disagree, gramme.
mrdobolina
(May 15 07, 10:56)That number is much smaller than you think. You won't find many reformed Protestants or Catholics who liked the guy. He had a stronger following in the Baptist crowd. The sort that send their kids to school at Bob Jones University.
- gramme0
Sure, we're all sinners. And when I say "we're all sinners" I mean the entire human race. We have all collectively shat the bed in that regard.
I would define "sinner" as a human being who is prone to doing wrong from time to time, be it a disrespectful comment, a lie, a murder.
Ever make a mistake? Are you less than perfect? Do you entertain hopes of ever becoming perfect? No? Welcome to our common problem.

there are millions of dangerously stupid people who ascribe to all manner of world views, morilla. What's your point?
flagellum
(May 15 07, 12:56)that thiests rape, murder and abort at a higher rate than non-thiests?
..and you can't scapegoat falwell on that one.
irrational belief systems breed irrational behaviors.
fact.
- gramme0
*although if 8 million people disagree with my distaste for a "Christian" worldview that excludes the world in which we exist, and has no room for grace or sovereignty, then that's just fine with me.

right now jesus is sitting across from jerry saying, "and that thing about the teletubbies... what the fuck were talking about? and on MY behalf? Really? Dude wwjd... WWJD!?"
- gramme0
does the bible actually mention homosexuality?
material
(May 15 07, 13:58)Sure, the Bible mentions it a number of times, in both the Old and New Testaments. I don't have a Bible handy and frankly I waste too much of my employers' time here already, otherwise I'd give you some references.

thanks gramme

From the NYTimes comment section:
This is VERY good news...I am happy he is dead.
God killed Jerry Falwell because HE could no longer abide a jerk like this making false claims HIS own name. The LORD slew Mr. Falwell for his sins, and crimes against humanity, and has rendered his judgment by sending Mr. Falwell’s soul to HELL.The above paragraph is Mr. Falwell’s legacy. That is the sort of language he used to pummel those with differing views than his own, and to rile up his base. He was a bigot, nothing more, nothing less. As I said initially, this is great news, and makes this a very happy day for me.
Falwell, I spit on you.

i just cannot for the life of me, coordinate how an exclusive group (one must be enrolled to in the rests' eyes, but validified as being so) who *prides* itself on the fundamental concept of true, bottomless love, can be so seperatist at the same time.
"they/them/that"?
"us"?
fucking hell man, these are human beings you are talking about, not some variation on the intent out to evil some greater 'plan' you feel is 'true'.
do you get that??? these are humans. they are you. you are them. does the action of their genitals truely create the speratist belief you can so clear define and justify?
how then, do you "love" homosexuals if you are both skeptical of "them" and yet have a distinct definition of what this boundless 'love' that you say a 'god' has for all 'his' creatures.
i just could never imagine having distain in my heart/being for another human, let alone one that has qualities slightly different than mine....
