This is so very sad. How awful for their families and all the kids still on lockdown without a clue of what's going on outside.
On a happier note, I have now decided to buy a sword for home protection.
I don't have beef with guns being used for [safe, non-drunk, registered] hunting, however bowhunting is more of a challenge and the bonus is that you don't hear about mass compound-bow murders.

at least you have a chance to bum rush the killer if he just has a knife or nunchucks
- version30
control isn't taking a gun out of the hands of the innocent.
fuck anyone who tries to take that right from me
i enjoy shooting responsibly and legally.
the solution is not your authoritarian approach, no matter how high your soapbox sits
and cars and cigarettes still each kill more each year than guns, why the same circle jerk everytime some wacko fucks up?
remember when that old man drove down 3rd st promenade picking people off?
Why didn't we banish cars at that very moment?
- tkmeister0
we humans are not smart enough to learn from our own history.
- version30
nah, I'm not gonna shut the fuck up mate. how many of these have to happen before people here get a clue about gun control?

(Apr 16 07, 10:38)honestly, you sound ignorant.
- Boz0
it's all Grand Theft Auto IV hype that caused it...down with Grand Theft Auto, they should all be arrested for making games like that. :)
- BonSeff0
fuck gun control
i think we need more "crazy motherfucker" control

i'm interested in seeing what the figures are like now. being reactionary isn't always very smart. guns may or may not be part of the issue, but there are clearly other psychological and societal factors in play here.

"and cars and cigarettes still each kill more each year than guns, why the same circle jerk everytime some wacko fucks up?"
version5
(Apr 16 07, 11:30)it's pretty simple, regardless if it's a crazy anglo guy in the states (mcvey, columbine, et al.) or some crazy muslim in the middle east, it's all the same, terrorism.
- IRNlun60
some news sources are saying 32 people or more... damn, this is really horrible...
- myobie0
i agree, i don't understand how the kinds of people who do this are created/produced
i suppose there have always been crazy people...but it's crazy
they make it sound like it takes a long time to walk because it takes _them_ a long time to walk it
when i went to school there i walked an avg of 5 miles a day...after a few months of that, you speed up
when it gets windy like today (which happens a lot there, i seen small girls blown over before) you walk even faster
now i walk from VA to DC across a bridge most days and the wind really blows over the potomac...so i speed up

v5, you sound a bit off comparing people who chose to smoke and die and people who get murdered by a senseless gunman.
cars main purpose is transportation.
automatic guns main purpose is to kill.
- Jaline0
sputnik, I agree, but, to many people, it seems like it's more simple to solve the gun issue compared to the psychological problems.
- -sputnik-0
simple is easy, but not necessarily right.
- Jaline0
cars main purpose is transportation.
automatic guns main purpose is to kill.

(Apr 16 07, 11:38)you have a point there...
people may say it's to protect yourself, but really, there are other ways.
- Ramanisky20
its beyond thunderdome out there
its madness

"i don't want to get into the whole pro/anti gun thing, but does anyone ever ask why our society produces people who are so detached from humanity and obsessed with violence?"
I think what makes us human is that we can get detached from society. But if someone hands that person a gun, he suddenly has that option to do what he thinks will make him feel good...well I wouldnt want to be around that dude when he does snap.
And anyone that says "just cause one wacko messed up, I should still have my right to blow someones head off"... what if it was a family member of yours that got killed?
I know death is part of life... but Im trying to dream of living in a utopia here. Isnt that what we are all working for?
- version30
tk
1a. vehicular manslaughter
1b. drunk driving2. second hand smoke
which of those things can i control again as a pedestrian?
try to see the whole picture, not just the part that works for your argument.
i think gun violence sucks too, but reading what a bunch of overprivileged, overpaid, underinformed suburbanites have to write about it from their office is not on my agenda
