Anyone use em? I've been using my own type of grid system for years that based on 10 pixel increments. Gonna pick up some books about creating grids for design.
What I'm curious about is, can grids be based on any type of measurements as long as they following rational ratios like 1:2 or 2:3 or is there a specific measurement that should be used?
I would also love to hear from other designers who use the grid system. Maybe we can share our grids.

i dont think u have to make grids in increments (graph paper style)
draw a column, and then make the next coloumn the same size or directly porportional to the first (half, 2/5, etc) being a print designer i have weird habits of designing websites (apart from my folio) as i would design spreads - (3-6 colums, chunky gutter ragged right etc)
i think if u were to use the same gird for every website the pages would become a bit too contrived where as making each page a totally different grid gives it a feel of its own
does this even make sense.. aah fuck it

the content defines the structure of the grid, not the other way around.

As oppose to the grid defining the content? Of course the type of content should define the grid to a certain degree but thats not he point of a grid. A grid is used to organized that content is a well constructed and meaningful manner.
Also the dimensions of the site you are designing also has a lot to do with defining the grid.
