stay away from maxtor and lacie and stick with seagate and western digital.

(Mar 28 07, 09:23)I'd have to agree, particularly because of the posts here and problems people have been having in general. Of course, you could just try it for yourself (kind of like the PC versus mac argument), so this is just a suggestion.
I haven't had my Western Digital one for that long (obviously), so I don't really have an opinion yet. It's working well so far :P

Anybody have any experience with the Seagate FreeAgent.
http://www.seagate.com/freeagent…
I'm thinking of getting one.
For the record I'm on my second Maxtor 320gb. The first one died within a year of purchase. Maybe they are more reliable now since Seagate bought them?!

I’m picking up a 1TB Western Digital after work today.
It’s actually cheaper than burning DVD-R DL’s.
:O
I wanted to stick with Maxtor, but for some reason they are hundreds more expensive for basically no noticeable reason, heh.
A few of these, and my ultimate plan I wanted to set out since I started with computers may be complete!@#

cheaper no-name brands do have a tendancy to die in the ass.

Probably too late...but....
Keep an eye on www.techbargains.com, there are some super deals.
I just picked up a Maxtor 500 gb One Touch III for $180.
I love my Maxtors, got a bunch of 'em now.

Bought the Western Digital that I said I would.
I'm going to use it this weekend sometime, most likely. There's just so much to organize and I don't have much time to do it right now.

It's actually $349.99 in Canada at Business Depot:
http://www.staples.ca/ENG/Catalo…I don't see one available for the Canadian version of Office Depot.

yeah Jaline, staples will price match most stuff but i think it mostly applies to non-online retailers (best buy, office depot, circuit city, etc..)
might want to read the fine print on that.
- Jaline0
oh snap! didn't even think of Staples, which is closer to my house.
- nocomply0
yeah so i saw online that office depot had it for $150. I printed it out and brought it to staples where they pricematch +10%.
So the extra 10% basically covered my tax and i walked out the door with the HD for just under $150. pretty sweet!
Damn i see the same one is $219 now!
- Jaline0
hah, thanks. I prefer getting it local though.
It's like $100 off at Futureshop (sale price being $150 for 250GB), so that seems decent. Same as Bestbuy, except I only save $70 because apparently it was already cheaper than Futureshop's price.
It's funny how they "compete" with each other, but it's so obvious that they're owned by the same person. Or someone who copies the other person, since their websites use the same scripts, features, categorizing system, etc.

you will not be disappointed with western digital. are you looking at the My Book?
furthermore, you may be able to get the model you are looking at cheaper at newegg.com vs the retail outlets, even with shipping! newegg is awesome!
*beams with nerddom and adjusts specs.

there goes most of my paycheck for the week :(
Thankfully, I don't really need much right now...just some new shoes or something. That can wait a few weeks when it's even more muddy...and shoes get dirty...yay!
Anyway, my Toshiba has been getting hot lately and I don't want to lose all my data like I did last time. So I think this is a good decision.
- Jaline0
but yeah i actually just bought an external WD 500GB HD for only $150. It rock! super sturdy, quiet, nice LED...good stuff.

500GB for $150?!!
Man, I really need to stop burning shit on DVD Dual Layers, hahaha.
- nocomply0
haha..wow some great responses from me in here...i forgot about that...and don't worry she apologized the next morning.

like jaylarson said the cost of external vs. internal with external case is about the same these days. sorry, i was living back in 2006 there for that first post.
- Jaline0
I think I'm going to go for something Western Digital, since the reviews are mostly positive. I can't find anything Seagate near any places or at any Bestbuy or Futureshop location near me. Only option would be through the internet.

I forget what I bought awhile ago, but it said to not use it like a regular hard drive and it has worked brilliantly for about 2 years.
Maxtor One Touch I think.
...
Now that I’ve typed this of course it will blow up when I get home and I’ll lose irreplaceable data. :X
