I never really tried bootcamp, I was about to when my mb started showing random shutdown syndrome. Now that it's fixed, I probably will.
Definitely dreamweaver through parallels is much faster than the osx version through rosetta. One of parallels bonuses is you can easily backup a windows partition, temporarily duplicate it for safety, or install xp and vista concurrently

bootcamp

So what is the definitive set up - using BOOTCAMP with windows on a mac or parrallels given that Adobe apps do not work as well on the Intel macs as yet?
- rafalski0
I use windows for work as well, tried to do one project through rosetta and will not try again. Dreamweaver had milisecond delays in everything, I couldn't stand it. Two adobemedia apps at once is max, I guess each clogs up a single core, but I am not sure this is how it really works.
I just installed Vista, this thing is unbelievably awful.. I kinda hoped it wouldn't

ooh ive been waiting for this update for aaages. Just ordered my macbook, white, 2ghz, 2gb ram :)

i run windows on it though... and super quick... and a good base for not going to hellfire with flash!

(Nov 8 06, 08:19)are you usin bootcamp or parallels? i tried bootcamp, but i can't get over the "visual noise" issue, so i'm running flash and fireworks in parallels. not ideal, but still faster than doing it natively in osx.

yeah the gloss is standard on the MacBooks, with no matte option. I just called apple to check, but from what you guys have said it's probably fine.

aye, im gonna make the switch to apple with a mb. probably get a refurb core duo and then save up for a bigger display.

hey poomoo,
I basically hook up my mb to a 20 inch apple screen at work and the same at home... so i have the identical set up... i run windows on it though... and super quick... and a good base for not going to hellfire with flash!
I've also got a power adaptor at both places so I'm kind of hot desking between the two, nothing more annoying that leaving a power adaptor behind... flash on a pc is of course better than on a mac... i usually run mac when i'm either runnning handbrake for ripping dvds or iPhoto, or just browsing the net
I was testing on a mbp with non glossy screen this afternoon at the apple store and the colours seemed really poor...
before hand i had a 2.5k Dell box, and was nothing but trouble... my productivity has increased so much more now!!

D30 is 6 years old indeed - I used to have one, and even then 3.3mp seemed dated. It is a classic now.
I sold my pentax DS and have been waiting for the new K10D premiere, delayed again till December.
D30 seemed like a fun cheap interim camera. My gf loves it, she never forgave me selling the old D30, so this time it will probably stay longer.

engage,
do you use you mb on a daily basis? to build the sites you do?
how do you find flash/fireworks runs on it?
i take it you hook it up to a screen at work?

i don't think it'll work as an ipod video replacement with 2gb. it's more pain to upload a video. d30 is cool but that's like 6yrs old, no?
- rafalski0
How's video working on the E61 tkmeister? Would it work as an iPod video replacement too?
I tried, but couldn't really justify getting an expensive and bulky phone so far, even though I've been using an old and beaten Siemens for years..
Bought a D30, an old Canon dslr dirt cheap instead, it's funny there are vintage dslr cameras already out there.
D30 and D60's were known for their specific film-like warmth..
- tkmeister0
yeah, i agree with you on that. that's why i think MBP is offering matte screen with gloss option.
btw, did you buy an e61? i started to use as a nano replacement. it's not bad. on my commute, i listen to music and play tetris these days.

I have a glossy 13.3 mb and hook a dell ultrasharp lcd monitor to it.
I don't like the glossy display at all and would consider swapping it for a matte one if I was using it more regularly. I couldn't use it outside on a sunny day, it was ridiculous.
I am not sure those panels are available in matte though, it is a fairly new lcd size factor.I believe the main reason they're pushing the gloss is the human bling syndrome - people like shiny things. Also, those look glass-like, thus mimic CRT monitors and TV's people are used to and associate quality with.

i wouldn't base it on what you saw at the store. lots of hands, lighting's always super strong.
- tkmeister0
hmmm, i was checking it out at apple store and i saw glare from the store light. and i also notice a lot of finger print and dust right away. i don't nocie it as much on my matte.
- johndiggity0
there's no glare unless you are working outside on the equator. i've used mine outside a bunch.
- tkmeister0
glossy optioin is for MBP. i think MB comes with gloss.
glossy looks ultra sharp and high contrast. but i am not sure if i'd like the constant glare.

aren't ALL the macbook screens 'glossy'. with no option.
i heard the glossy screens are a bit poor, especially outdoors.
de4k
(Nov 8 06, 06:29)wrong.
by default the screens are NOT glossy. glossy is the option.
the glossy screens are in my opinion superior in showing color to a non-glossy screen.
glare isn't nearly as bad as what has been reported.
