I have a glossy 13.3 mb and hook a dell ultrasharp lcd monitor to it.
I don't like the glossy display at all and would consider swapping it for a matte one if I was using it more regularly. I couldn't use it outside on a sunny day, it was ridiculous.
I am not sure those panels are available in matte though, it is a fairly new lcd size factor.I believe the main reason they're pushing the gloss is the human bling syndrome - people like shiny things. Also, those look glass-like, thus mimic CRT monitors and TV's people are used to and associate quality with.
