the message the logo conveys (intentionally or not) is: mess.
funny, it reads 'Goethe' when I look at it. It is a childish idea, and played many times as well, but could work ok if were done better imo. to be honest, some of the top 10 other entries were really scarry, so this one is prolly a lesser evil.
the runner up is pretty neat.Polish vodka is bad for you, ehmm khayy? Just visiting the country this weekend, friend's stag do, brother's birthday and stuff.. ended up eating delicious chicken on a river bank at 6am with the soon-to-be-groom friend.. great time!
I drank it so you wouldn't have to, mhm-khay?.. My head is big now and the keyboard clicks so loud!

looking at the logo, seems like he didn't do it ‘instead’ of consuming vodka.

Best of a bad bunch, imo. I get the impression that it wasn't judged by other designers - though, if it had been, would the winner be a generic sans-serif block of yellow and blue? That said, I do like the generic red block of sans-serif they've used for the National Interpreting Service logo - that's pretty sweet.
Some of those other entries are FUCKING AWFUL - how did they market this competition?
Art students do not good designers make, generally, imo.

Back in the day my friend and I were going to make a microbrew beer called "Pole". We had all the marketing worked out - hot chicks saying they love to "Grab a pole!", and weird mascot type CAnadian guys walking into poles and uttering some kind of cool catchphrase.
And then Poland got pissed and we decided to go into the highly lucrative import/export business...but we always wonder what coulda been...

at first look, all of the colors reminds me of the google logo.

I get all the counter arguments, and all the "atta boy, you art student, way to go!" caveats, but it still looks like ass to me.

but you are designers.
this was designed for people interested in the EU and in party-logo's!!
Has anyone here ever been in contact with EU commissioned design?
If not, keep it that way.
This logo is a creative enlightment compared to the avg. EU communication design standards imho.

yeay to my heritage going down the toliet.
i get the concept, but the execution is poor.

high five to crouwel for his statement about the meaningless los-logos shit. agreed.

wouldn't you try to work the euro symbol in there somewhere. Or is that taking it too far. lol

in my op there's 3 obvious reasons why this logo won:
1. It's far better than the other 9 finalists;
2. It has an intriguing quality as you try to identify countries and sources in it;
2.1 the first E is pretty nice, and recalls the Euro symbol in the middle of the logo;
3. No one knew about this contest except those who bumped into it.

If anyone was going to complain it would be the French.
Let them design it.
