Hi guys,
I'm doing an identity for a very small charitable consultancy (a small company that advises charities how to run better) the consultancy is a charity itself, hence I will be doing the work pro bono.
The company is called Mosaic.
I've done some initial ideas and don't really know in which direction to run. The head of the company just wants something simple and professional looking as they don't currently have any letterheads, business cards etc.
I want to give them something a bit interesting.
I like the idea of number 6: the whole identity being designed in Courier (a monospace font, reflecting the monospacing of mosaics) it would also looked stripped down like the charity wasn't wasting money on their stationary and the logo could be inserted into word docs etc and emailed.
Anyway, any comments or suggestions are welcome, it's early days still!

hmm they seem a bit high tech and tough to read...
what if just one letter was the mosiac /pixel? im guessing "o" would be the easiest - maybe make iyt up froma bunch of circles and not squares?

hmm, a bit tough on colourblind people! ;o)
I agree, but I think I'm over my 'logo as a mosaic' idea (ie the first few designs), it's a bit obvious.
I'm thinking maybe just a nice typographpic treatment might be better for them. A little twist would be nice.

yeah, maybe taking this matter a bit too literally.
you could also have a word with different colored letters, but that may be turned to grayscales on faxes and what not..
so just use a hint of mosaic and not right in the face an image of mosaic and then the word as well...

How's about the word mosaic in a nice typeface with the 'o' being constructed by a series of smaller circles of varying sizes. Basically, a mosaic for the 'o'.

none of them there logers (logos) would hold up on a matchbook...
i like the idea of somewhat relaying a literal 'mosaic'... but not all pixeled...
perhaps it's a beautiful font... reversed out of squares?... 'M' in a square, 'O' in a square, 'S' in a square and so on... real simple (like building blocks almost)
... i dunno... just a though...

yeah, I agree. I think everyone goes has to go through all the obvious ideas early on to get them out of the system.

But sometimes the obvious is appropriate. : )
- Baskerville0
ok, well I'm clichéd rather than obvious.
- Baskerville0
that was supposed to say 'I mean' rather than 'I'm'... freudian slip I guess.

what I HATE about identities w/names like 'mosaic'... is that you can't help but be 'obvious' for about 70 logos until something 'clever' slaps you in the face.
I don't envy you... but then again... PRO BONO could always mean 'logo #1' if you could 'care less' about having a portfolio piece. :)

I sort of agree with PonyBoy. I would go with the less obvious, nice typo-treatment personaly.

bask, do you need to comply with any accessibility guidelines? Charities usually abide by the rules set by the RNIB otherwise you get done by the government for breaching the Disibility Discrimination Act.

I agree, you have to steer clear of 'mosaic', and start thinking laterally about what it is the DO.
The only one I liked was 7, but I dont really think it suits the charity, just looks nice though the kerning is poor.
Personally, the concept that immediately springs to mind is 'conduit', I see this word linked with the roman era in their technologies re irrigation/sewage disposal, and it means to bring things together, bringing ideas togather, it is what they do. I would therefore look down this angle and produce a logo based on the channelling and streamlining of ideas and information.
