Thanks, honest. My old tutor from college helped set out the RNIB guidelines. It really appliies more to setting text etc, not so much logos which could be anything.
Thanks for the, erm, useful google lniks Teeuwen, I already searched for mosaic. Doesn't look to be much competition!

thanks rasko,
"The only one I liked was 7, but I dont really think it suits the charity, just looks nice though the kerning is poor."
7. was in trajan, a weak link with roman type things. I litterally just typed the word out. Way, way too early to worry about kerning really. Probably too early to even worry about typefaces if I'm honest. I'm just trying to think of what I want to say right now.

yeah I was aware of that, but considering the audience is not nerdy graphic designers, I would rather think of a concept that may carry across to the target market even if subliminally, otherwise we are only providing shoddy back up material to impress the client during presentation. Its funny when you see logos or graphics and its patently obvious that the designer has chosen the typeface because it happens to have the same name as the product or whatever, that cracks me up.
For me, and I'm sure you are the same, but the first stage is always figuring out the basis of the clients operations, putting words on paper and thinking of concepts. The prettifying comes later.

I'd still go with a twist on a mosaique, reflecting the variety of organisations they work with. That may even be why they chose the name(?).
The "obvious" can be made unique through good execution.

^ he makes a good point, they likely chose the name due to some kind of 'jigsaw' concept, them fitting the pieces together type deal, and would probably expect to see something abstractly displaying that.
- rasko40
but my conduit idea is still better.
heh

(Sep 11 06, 03:46)very true.
I think they are called mosaic because they helped take all the pieces of a charity's operation and put them together into a coherant working body.
- republik80
The conduit idea would apply also.
Keep workin' on the concepts anyway, i'd be interested to see how the project develops.

I have nothing to add...

anyway, thanks for all your help.
Back to the drawing board, with renewed spark!

That image is a great starting point.

good stuff bville... i like 6 a lot but would worry it might look a bit too young/technical/fashionable for their audience? but it's hard to get away from a technical treatment because of the "building blocks" nature of what they do.
what do you know about the intended audience?
- Baskerville0
Ha, I've got some nice ideas about rubik's cubes now!

or lego?
- republik80
Jigsaw pieces forming a cube?

seems you're thinking about your portfolio more than the client's needs.
they don't look supportive .. or have a sense of protection or good counsel.
they look like club logos except for the last couple and those are really dull.

Try and communicate more with less...

(don't use the los logos books for inspiration, there's nothing in them but styling).
