So I work for a small company that writes and sells technical workbooks for training. for the past 4 years their books have been written, edited, laid out and printing all from Microsoft Word!!!!!

as you can imagine we have many many issues with each new book.

PLEASE give me suggestions on how i can fix this!

I have been messing around with inDesigns ability to import word docs.

But i would like to completely streamline this process for the future.

Is InCopy the way to go? Or can we continue to work with Word (which would make it easier for our writers) but just cut out the layout crap in word

seeing as you're going to have to lay it out anyway, let the writers do what the writers do in word. No need to get another program for it. Just tell them their days as designers are over and their days as proofers, reproofers, and re-reproofers are here to stay.

They were probably used to doing changes for themselves... but now you're their bitch for that stuff ;)

InCopy? no need. If you're familiar with InDesign, then it's just a matter of placing the word doc into a text box and typesetting the copy. If you aren't that familiar with InDesign, then i reccomend taking a quick course on it as it is a strong professional pragram for layout (and by god, WORD is NOT a layout program, nor should it be used as one...) There are pro's and con's to both InDesign and Quark (the program that InDesign is attempting to slay) but my main reccomendation is to learn InDesign.
