Hello
Im looking into these Dell 24 inch panels. I do a lot of motion work and color correction, and am not 100% convinced by the reviews i read.
Could anyone who owns this tell me wether it s suitable for these tasks?
Thanks

I don't know if I have good eyes or what, but I'm on my second display because of the "screen door effect". Whenever something is moving quickly, you can see a sort of cross hatch pattern. It gets annoying after a while.
But as far as real estate, I love it.

I've yet to see any LCD that I'd want to do colour correction on.
I've got the 1905FP (same panel technology/manufacturer I believe) and I wouldn't trust it for colour.
For the money, try to find a quality CRT. I think Illyama is still producing some good ones.

We have one for motion work in our studio. Its decent enough. Doubt I would trust it for colour correction though. But then I don't know anything about colour correction.

whoops, that's iiyama

I just picked one up 2 weeks ago... love it. I'm still working on getting the colours calibrated. But its great so far. Besides it all depends on how you calibrate the monitor. If you use a spyder type calibrator can it really be wrong.
I picked my up for 790 shipped. let me know if you need the number to my rep, he'll give you the best deal

$790 shipped is a good deal. These are brand new and not refurb, right? Any dead pixels?

whens dell coming out with the 30" they were talking about?

More importantly, is the 2405fpw good to game on...?

the 30" is already out and it's better than Apples:

I own one and love it. If you have a high performance video card and calibrate it correctly I would say go for it..

When I first got it no dead pixels, I check every couple days. I found 1 about 2mm from the right edge of the screen. I only notice it if I move my head to the right in front of it, so I'm not going to send it back. My friend got 1 about 2 weeks before me and he says his is perfect. As far as gaming, I've read widescreengamingforum and it seems pretty good. My friend is a big gamer and he loves it.
Just make sure your graphics card can run widescreen and makes sure its dvi

Something tells me that my 9800pro won't be able to handle it... oh well. Gonna have to wait a little longer til I update my rig.
Thanks for the info and links.

I'm getting mine delivered tomorrow. I honestly have no idea how my mate managed to get them at this price, but I'm paying $685 Australian for a 24" widescreen. I can.not.wait.

I have a 20 inch Dell 2405 at work and a 20 inch Apple Cinema display at home...honestly I dont notice the difference and if I had to do it over again, I would have bought the Dell for sure.

I've got a 2405 on my old, old Dual 867 G4
Running it off of a 64MB Radeon 9000 and it works fineHowever, I have had problems with this LCD randomly flickering since I got it. It would be fine for a few days, and then it would flicker in spasms for 10mins to 1 hour completely randomly.
I replaced the video card, cable, moved it around, changed settings etc.
Took me 3 weeks to find a workaround.
Dell would NOT send me a new one because the self test ran fine (you cant see light flickering when the self test is running regardless, but those fuckers didnt listen to me)
I actually had one Indian guy who ARGUED with me telling me that there was no way it could be the screen (even though I had already cleared everything with Apple, and in my lengthy experience with computers - I know what a bugged screen looks like)I don't know if it's a cultural thing, but that guy was an ass and stubborn and insulting as hell.
He then tried to transfer me to their monitor specialists but then hung up on me.
(this was the 8th time I had called support)The workaround I found was to bump the brightness back up to 24
(it ships set at 50, which is WAY bright for a Mac)I would give Dell's support an F for "fucking assholes"
The screen, I would give an A- only because of this issue I had.
It hasn't flickered since I bumped the brightness, and otherwise it's wonderful.BUT DONT WORRY!
Dell ASSURES me there is nothing wrong with the monitor.Fuckers.

I have 2 Dell 1905 and i'm very happy (bought them a year ago). For best monitors on the market: http://www.eizo.com/products/ind…

CINDER - flicker can be the back light connections or the back light failing. My Sony Vaio laptop monitor flickers if its cold. Once its warmed up it seems fine. I think its the connections.
