So much stuff to take in ....

yeah, i know what you mean by a lot of stuff to take in. lots of ideas and stuff.

yeah it's good stuff; an overwhelming amount of information to absorb in one viewing.
its also been aired a couple times on public TV here in BC (was a Vancouver production and I'm guessing they were given free rights to broadcast).

By "A lot of stuff to take in" you really mean "B.S. to sift through"

Saw it not more than a month ago. Layed awake for hours thinking about it, and thinking of what I need to do.
Another good doc I saw recently, sort of along the same lines, was The Yes Men.
Both have motivated me out of the complacency I felt after the '04 elections.

Why do the people that are anti Bush and believe corporations are no-good-liars-only-wanting-to
further-their-own-agenda insist on directing their attention toward a man who make fictional movies and calls them documentaries? You know he had to give up an award because "bowling for columbine" had "inaccuracies" that disqualified it from being classified a true documentary...

that bit with the chairman of Pfizer trying to alert a subway station guard using an emergency device built by Pfizer to no avail was gold Jerry gold

no sure how much input Michael Moore had with the production this movie he's only in a few spots

It was made by two Canadians. The rest of the people are guests/comedians/stars, and ppl who say what they know.

read the book, which I thought was good. before 9/11 I thought the encrouching power of corporations on what was prior the realm of the state and the community commons was to be the biggest danger the West had to deal with. After 9/11 I realized how really, really true that is...
And I'm not neccessarily anti-business. Heck, I'm incorporated. And the one thing all these multinationals definitely aren't about is a free markets.

Went to the ny premiere a while back in nyc and got to meet the makers. was good flick, definately very informative. i remember having that feeling of helplessness after watching it, Not that I felt like I had to cut myself off from everything, but since then I realized that there are certain industries I wont support or be apart of.

it's not about 'business' it's about attitudes and practices of business...small business is good where as corporations stifle their growth and cause a huge amount of damage in a myriad of ways

In the book there is definitely a bias, nbut they do make some very serious critiques about the psychology and methodology of corporations - especially in passing the costs of their operation off onto the public, who pick up the burden and the risk..and that only seems to have gotten worse.
Interesting that we're starting top see business push for some kind of national healthcare legislation NOW, that they're overwhelmed by health care costs while for the last decades they fought tooth and nail against socialized healthcare. as soon as the burden becomes too much they push it off onto the public sector..

yeah word...in canada there's more talk these days of reverting taxes from corporations to social services and federal oil revenues to municipalties, seems like a change of perspective to curb their ability to pass on responsibilties...but the government will talk about stuff like that but reduce sorp. taxes at the same time

haven't seen it.
does it explain the emergence of "corporate personhood" and how this gave rise to it's dominant position within the economy?
- poomoo0
^^
yes it does
- designerror0
good film indeed.
it's much like the PVN actually, you need to filter out a lot of shit talk in order to find to good stuff.

mmmm. may have a look then.
It is slightly different in Europe where the coporations are represented by confederations and associations and the lobbying power is emmense. There are approximately 15,000 full-time business lobbyists based in Brussles that seek to water down every piece of public interest legislation coming from the EU - and they are very successful.
The Confederation of British Industry has the handy title of being the one body who has managed to water down almost every piece of environmental legislation in the last ten years.
i better not get started on this or it'll ruin my day.............
- lowimpakt0
but before i go I'll just re-emphasise the point that the "influence trade" in Brussles not only adopted the corporate lobbying techniques from the US but magnified them. They are not only acting within a narrow economic rationality and self-interest but they are removing legislative attempts to save tens of thousands of lives every year - i.e. chemicals policy, air and water quality policies etc etc.
