well, a Ford an a Chevy are both cars, isnt it?
;)
dude, the differences are so big an so insignificant at the same time....
I studied in a protestant school and in a catholic school, and believe me, the difference is just superficial. yes of course, the catholic church is much more powerful.

-----------------------In Latin America and Europe maybe. In the US? I don't think so. Again - 1 Catholic president to 47 Protestant ones.
Do the math.

"well, a Ford an a Chevy are both cars, isnt it?"
You ever seen Calvin pissing on a Protestant symbol while wearing a Catholic symbol?
Ford vs. Chevy is as big of a rivalry as any and they are NOT the same thing.

as far as I'm concerned
same motherfuckers
believing
the same God of Thunder.

What is crucial is not what a particular movement posits, but rather what the source says. The heart of true Christianity is not a religious movement, but rather an intimate relationship with a living savior. And the scriptures are replete with this truth. People on both sides of the issue have done their share of harm to the name of Christ... but it does not invalidate the source.
The goal of the individual should be to simply seek God in the scriptures and find a place of loving fellowship with other believers. It's as simple as that. Dont' get caught up with denominational stumbling blocks.

God of Thunder?
Ok Chief Running Bull of the Native Americans.

(Aug 25 05, 08:13)ummhhh... i give it up, i recognize. i dont know a shit about cars...!
:/
and when it comes to symbols much better not to talk about this issue. the catholic symbols are just stolen from so many old pagan religions (egypt, babylon, etc......)...
etc.... blablablabla.
you won!

Gods of thunder tend to go 'boom' every now and again...

Look up Catholic and Protestant in the dictionary. Two seperate things. Similar general beliefs but two entirely different religions.
Actually, in their definitions they do not even mention one another.
All religion's objectives are the same dude.
garettwest
(Aug 25 05, 07:39)WHAT?! do you have a clue man, or what? two seperate religions?! they don't mention each other cos they fucking hate each other (traditionaly that is) jeeeesus.
- garettwest0
kelpie. I hope you're trying to explain that the jg_2 cause I understand that. I was trying to explain it to him in an eloquent manner. You however took a different approach.
I have a c lue. You don't. Read each post more thorough before you respond.
- TheTick0
Yeah Kelpie - alot of these protestants talk about their own personal Jesus.
I don't have that kind a relationship with the Dude. He doesn't send me birthday cards, never calls. Never sends me messages I need to share with other people...
- discipler0
hehe, the Bible puts it this way:
1 John 5:20-
We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him who is true—even in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.
-------------------------
The key word being "know". :)
- jg_20
kelpie you are right. protestantism was founded on a catholic basis. thats one of the reasons why they hate each other....
the main and biggest different between both of them is their attitude towards the bible.
the other differents are just formal
- discipler0
The primary thrust of the protestant movement was to get back to the Bible as the sole authority. As opposed to the Catholic dogma of the church being on equal authoritative grounds as scripture.
- kelpie0
ok Garret, I've read the rest of your posts, could you point out to me where you take back your bold claim that Catholics and Protestants are in fact not two branches of the same religion, borne of political strife at the time of Luther and the Medici popes?
they are the same religion you can't just back out of that like you did when Pascii pulled you up earlier in the thread.
the kind of thing Pascii's talking about is one of my pet hates too btw...
- kelpie0
^^^ discipler knows the history...
- kelpie0
thought the selling of pardons from God to fund mass orgies and piss ups in the Vatican had a lot to do with it too :/
- TheTick0
kelpie - you raise some good points - Protestantism is definitely an offshoot and a reaction to Catholicism, both purportedly worship the same God and use basically the same text.
But the nature of worship is very different I think and the goal of both worship is different. One's spiritual being - regardless of belief or non-belief - is engaged with the world in a physical body, and worship practices define one;s relationship to the world. The world that Catholics live in is very different from the one Protestants live in in this sense - but becaus ethey share base similarities the differences are even more divisive - heresy essentially.
What defines religion? Base texts? Shared resource? Or practice, worship and the physical engagement with the real world as a result of those practices?
- garettwest0
Kelpie seriously what he hell are you talking about?
Above I said yes to jg that Protestant and Catholic religions are both forms of Christianity but are two entirely different religions. Just like a Ford and a Chevy are both cars but are entirely different cars. I really have no clue what you are on about in your first paragraph.
To break it down for you.
Christianity is...
Catholic
Christian Science
Eastern Orthodox
Mormon
ProtestantAll are different religions under the same base of Christianity.
Dude you are really off base.
And with pascii? Again I really don't know what you are on about. I didn't back out of anything. Are you really reading what was written or are you just reading what you want to and filling in the blanks on the rest. Pascii didn't call me out on anything genious.
What the hell man.
And it's a pet peeve dumbass.
