(Aug 25 05, 01:08)If they had potty mouths (evangelists), they might say the same thing back ya know.

garettwest
(Aug 25 05, 07:16)that's exactly what i mean.
- garettwest0
Then we're in the same boat thinking sometimes 'to each his own' means 'keep it to your fucking self' towards evangelists.

evangelists = catholics... etc...
- garettwest0
jg_2.
evangelists = protestant = "A member of a Western Christian church adhering to the theologies of Luther, Calvin, or Zwingli"
or...
Not Christian. Two seperate things dude.
- garettwest0
Crap. I meant to type 'not Catholic.' Sorry.
But it is two seperate things.
- pascii0
with evangelists i mean those people who know what's good for you and tell u that every time u take a breath,
- jg_20
garettwest, i know what a protestant is since i have readen some Luther books, and since my whole family was into this.
evangelists = believe in Jesus, so they are Christian.
i dont think they are so separate since both religions are based on two different intrepretations from the same source.and their objective is the same

I like those snake handling evangilist dudes. Those guys are tight.
- garettwest0
Look up Catholic and Protestant in the dictionary. Two seperate things. Similar general beliefs but two entirely different religions.
Actually, in their definitions they do not even mention one another.
All religion's objectives are the same dude.

Its kinda funny...this whole pat robertson thing. He basically puts a fatwa out there for the president of Venezuela, then "explains" why Muslims are angry, and this govt and most people overlook the fact that he said the same things that were said when Salmon Rushdie's Satanic Verses came out. No one here really cares. These religious idiots like him and Osama are ordering hits on whoever does not subscribe to their POV. I think it is disgusting. Just giving my 2 cents.
- jg_20
yes of course, two separate things thats why both believe in jesus, in sin,.... thats why luther before a protestant was a priest

the media always blows things out of proportion to make money, we all should know that.
How many people do this kind of comments or worse but since they wont make noice in the media no one says anything, but when some one that could attract the masses and would make money, its plasted all over the place...
All i have to say is GROW UP!
listen to the person before the media and dont judge everyone by one person.
- garettwest0
Ok jg. Then a Ford and a Chevy are the exact same thing.
Try telling that to a Ford or Chevy guy.

keep in mind that there's a pretty broad spectrum that falls under the umbrella of "evangelist". I think your complaint is regarding televangelists with huge expensive churches and such. Yes, I'm sure many of them are crooked. But there are also legitimate Bible teachers who have their services televised as an extension of their evangelistic ministry. Doesn't mean you have to agree with their message, of course.

Look, here's the nutshell - Catholics and Protestant are not the same thing. They had a few hundred years of wars about this in Europe. the first crusades where not in the Middle East they were into the South of France against heretics. Plenty about the religious wars that wrecked Europe in your history books.
Heck, religion determined why America and Brazil had slaves and the SPanish colonies didn't. Do not brush over religious differences and put all christians in the same box.
Christianity in the US is defined primarily in Protestant terms. We've had ONE (1) Catholic president - JFK, and the protestants where up in arms at the time claiming he would be taking direction from the Pope - which Kennedy had to frequently deny, especially during his campaign.
Interesting that the protestants were AFRAID of Kennedy's religious convictiuons shading his politics, but now they are calling for more of THEIR interpretation of the religion be expressed in politics.Fundamentalism is a political movement, not a religious one.
The US Founders, well aware of the dangers of religion and governmental powers sharing the same base (aka the Church of England, Rome a few hundred years before that) wisely seperated the government from endorsing or having a favored/spomsored religion.
So, to make the argument that Catholics and Protestants are the same is absurd.
Catholics are ritual based in worship and community. Protestants are seekers of individual spiritual fulfillment through their own personal interpretation of the bible.
Whose right/wrong? Whatever..but they are differenet and those difference led to violence, civil wars and bloodshed in the past. To ignore those differences is to do so at yuor own peril.
