hi all. well the time is almost here. i got offered a job in cali and will probably be moving in the next 4 weeks. woohoo!
i got to try and find an apartment. i've done brief searches, but can anyone give me an estimate as to what i would pay for a 1 bedroom?
I was given a heads up on the pennisula for possible apartments and or room for rent. anyone live in or around the area that could give me some details about it? Thanks in advance.

Depending on how close to the beach, in Newport, I'd say at least $1000.00 for a studio or one bedroom. You might find better deals in Costa Mesa or Fountain Valley, 2 neighboring cities. I live in Huntington Beach, most apts in Huntington and Newport are pretty pricey. I have friends in Newport paying $2000 for 2 bedroom, 2 bath places.

yeah, that's what i was afraid of.
man, i only pay $700 for my pretty big 1 bedroom here in minneapolis. Haha, i guess you pay for the beach access and nice weather. that's def. worth it though. snow sucks

SPENDY. You can probably find a room for rent for 1200-1500 a month... or you can find a 1 bedroom apartment near the peninsula for 1300-1800. But you might be seeing some craziness like 1700-2000.
Living near the peninsula is like living in the Pacific Palisades or Malibu in LA.
I would recommend you moving into the number streets at least (which is totally fun and awesome) or even newport costa mesa border. Thats a very very nice area just a bit more inland (by about 5 friggin minutes). You can rent a house in costa mesa for the mount a 1 bedroom in balboa would cost you. If youre gunna drop that kind of money.. get a place with a yard so you can bbq and drive to the beach faster than you can say mississippi.
I grew up in CM/NB/HB and spend a lot of time in Corona Del Mar, Laguna, Dana Point and San Celemente.

Megatron5150, those prices arent near Balboa though. Those are up in the number streets for sure.

you going to juxt lvl_13?
i lived out there for a while in costa mesa. i had a 2br/1ba i shared w/ a roommate and paid $500/mo. inluding utilities. it was still only a few minutes to the beach.
i'd check out what's on craiglist if you haven't already.

errybody's going to juxt now eh. Pinch adrian for me.. you'll know him when you see 'em.

good luck!

lvl it wont be so bad. just look outside of balboa. Newport is a spendy city. It's where a lot of the LA execs move to, to get away from LA but still be a not insane distance from LA. A lot of OC real estate moguls are live there. And it has the best spas and shopping in the whole county.
But it gets much more normal if you dont mind living near the outskirts of newport or one city inland or one beach town north (south is more expensive). Fountain valley was also a good reccomendation.
I'd say im very very picky about where I live. I like easy, quiet but close to a lot of things to do and fairly central to my friends. If i were to go back to Orange County, I would look in the following cities and I wouldnt be bummed on any of them:
Expensive:
- Newport
- Corona Del Mar
- Laguna BeachNot so expensive:
- Costa Mesa
- Fountain Valley
- Huntington Beach
- Irvine (the part closer to newport near UCI)If you dont mind a 20 min or less drive to work but prolly closer to more people and things:
Fun Cities:
- Seal beach
- Roosemoore/Los Alamitos
- Fullerton
- Orange (near orange circle)Other options:
- Tustin
- The very east and very west sides of Santa Ana.You'll find something quickly with all those options. Rock on. There should be an NT OC drinks soon with all the new nt people down there lately.

awesome shellie. thanks a lot for that info.
i am def. down for some NT OC drinks. that never happens here in minneapolis : )

give joe stewart a high five for me. (assuming he's still there)
i always thought long beach was a pretty cool place. it might be a bit more of a drive than you're looking for though.

will do!
yeah, i like long beach as well. i think that drive would suck everyday though : )

long beach is the tits. its one city north of seal beach which i suggested. its only a 20 minute drive.. but you'd actually officially live in Los Angeles County (its the border). If you go off of 7th street... you could literally spit at orange county from there. Theres a lot of good bars and a decent scene there.
But, its not as OC bro bro cookie cutter if that bothers you. Some people like that though (i do).

Hehe, I'm going to be starting at Juxt on Sept 19th. Driving there (from Vegas) with the wife this weekend to find a rental in Irvine. See you there!
- lvl_130
oh nice! see ya' there caseyc.

Juxt is closer to Costa Mesa than balboa anyway, not sure why they list Newport as their address. All the other businesses around them (Paul Frank, Volcom) all call Costa Mesa home. Must be right on the border of NB.
Pretty hard to find any 1 bd apt (worth living in) for less than $1500 anywhere in CM, NB, HB.
Long Beach/Belmont is certainly more culturally interesting and a bit cheaper.
- unclesize0
Oh and one more thing, the drive from LB to NB everyday would bloddy rule! You'll go by some of the best and most open coastline (Bolsa Chica) left in SoCal.
I often ride my bike along that stretch, you're only talking about 10 miles here.

i worked at juxt for a year and you can not beat The Beach House Apartments for location and price.
