kona, in hs i worked at a waterpark. had about 2 saves a week. tried my best not to get wet. used the hook mostly.
the pool where all this went down was a bowl. 3ft around the edges and 10 in the center.
lots of grommets would wander off in the center and freak out.
none of the save were baywatch'esc

i never really saved anyone...pulled a couple kids out of deeper water when they started to get overwhelmed and scared, but not really drowning or anything...mostly got good at yelling "no running!" in a scary voice that soccer moms seemed to think was adorable and they wouldn't leave me alone...

In college I was the driver for an escort service. I would pick one of the girls up at a sorority house on the UCSB campus, drive her to a mansion in Hope Ranch, sit in my blue VW Golf with a joint and whatever Kerouac novel I was obsessed with, and wait an hour, sometimes three of four. If the girls were running late I'd have to go knock on the door and pretend to be annoyed, but the thing is, despite how many times I watched GoodFellas, I wasn't visually a tough guy, so more often than not the gentleman would offer me a lemonade while the girl finished showering. This was always the interesting part--having small talk with a rich John--without mentioning what they had just done.
I made $20 an hour, plus the girls tipped me $20-$30, and then, after the deed, we'd go down to the beach and blaze and talk about our classes.
Damn, I wish life was so easy now...

I've got a long list; as a kid I baled hay and had a paper route. I worked retail: stereo store, record store, book store, convenience store. To save for college i was a security guard, till they went out of business owing me a month's pay. Next I worked in a factory putting stuff into cardboard boxes. Washed dishes, bussed tables, waited tables. Toured in bands; for a couple of years I played music on cruise ships. Back on land for 3 months I was paid $6.50 an hour to stand in a picket line for a union I didn't belong to.
Bicycle messenger, delivery van driver, t-shirt printer, warehouse shipping clerk, etc etc - - and finally, graphic designer and freelance FLash animator! all true. I'm old...
