Europe (divided we stand)
- vb_0
yup, it's soo more original now.
- lvl_130
surprise?
- randoman0
how do you europeans feel about the EU? what are your likes and/or dislikes?
- vb_0
great timing.
it is extremely late now and the last european online goes to bed now.
goodnight!
- lvl_130
hah. you can never go to bed janne! nice try though! owned, or pawned or some other nerd talk.
- peteski0
sleep on it and get back to us in the morning (this thread will prob. not be here but whatever)

I'm just asking because I had always figured that most Europeans resisted the EU in fear of a assimilation / loss of identity. The Euro wasnt that well recieved, or at least not well enough to forcast the EU being welcomed right?
- rabattski0
btw if i'm not mistaken it has been already anchored in the dutch law that european law precedes national law. for quite some time now already. check out art. 94 grondwet. the supreme court can still fight it in single cases but it's funny that people vote against something that already excists.

We (belgium) voted YES!
At least, our right-wing politicians did that for us.
Great democracy.

By the sound of things, the only one who actually seems to 'get' what the voting was all about is rabattski.
- vb_0
don't be so incredibly arrogant and narrow-minded now, jocks.
- rabattski0
50 years old that seems to be, that one law.
- vb_0
"Artikel 94
Binnen het Koninkrijk geldende wettelijke voorschriften vinden geen toepassing, indien deze toepassing niet verenigbaar is met een ieder verbindende bepalingen van verdragen en van besluiten van volkenrechtelijke organisaties."well, yes, rabattski, but that law is pretty universal and far less fetching then what we have been voting for.
- rabattski0
but was everyone aware of that? what do you think? (i don't follow dutch media that intense so that's why i ask). i think that most where so fixed on that article 1 thing while it actually already excisted. and it ain't that universal janne, it's quite firm.
- vb_0
yes, it's firm in the way it is in effect. what i meant with universal is that other countries who are part of larger institutions have the same law. it's not that special.
no, i have to agree that i got pretty angry about a lot of people i saw on the telly and the reasons they had to vote no. they were just completely off and had nothing to do with the constitution.
but also on the yes camp there were simple minded folks saying "well i think i am gonna vote yes cuz my dad does so too"..
i mean.. wtf?
- rabattski0
so basically not many know what they were voting for? what was the media / newspaper doing before this referendum? was there a debate of the pros and cons? could people educate themself or not really?
- stewart0
don't blame me, i didn't vote.
