Hey dudes and dudettes,
I know u people are good with iPods here...
I'm a mac user and I installed iPod on my PC, and it freaked me out...
After I installed the iPod software on XP, I didn't do a restart and went right into importing a cd and dragging the songs into the iPod. On top of not restarting windows after the installed - I think I may have disconneted the USB from the iPod without completely ejecting the iPod, or didn't click on 'safely remove hardware' (on the windows tray? where's the windows tray anyway).
Here's what freaked me out. as soon as I disconnect iPod I get this error message, which was on a DOS looking screen, saying it was a serious problem, and also saying something about "if I see that screen again, remove and re-installed antivirus software" When I turned off and on again, I got a message, that was a serious problem with widows was just fixed.Anyway, what happend? I'm scared to use iPod again.... I'm new to Windows... Anyone had any experience like this?
My question: not restarting the computer after the install, could have caused this?
I'm scared iPod is going to ruin something.thanks!

It's always better to restart your computer after installing something new.

seems that what happened was just windows being windows...
chill. install everything, do not disconnect your ipod without ejecting it from itunes, for example. and disconnect the automatic sync between the ipod and your computer...it's a pain in the ass, and it's much better to choose what you want to upload to it.
oh, and restart your computer.

iTunes on the pc sucks.

iTunes on the PC works fine for me. I switch back and forth between mac with no problem.
The problem isn't "windows being windows" as you just said you didn't restart and unplugged before ejecting (a bad thing to do regardless of platform).
I wouldn't worry about the iPod messing up the computer, chances are it would be the other way around. If the iPod appears to be working then I say use it.

iTunes on PC is fine. Never had a problem. I have the 30Gb iPod full of all those tunes that I post on FMT and more so.

I don't think you need to worry, man. But I have a good advice for you: uncheck the option that lets iTunes reorganize your library. I forgot to do that and now all my hip hop albums (where every song features different guest stars) are divided into a hundred thousand folders* and who knows, maybe that's what messed your computer up. And also, my iPod has been acting up some times when I didn't disconnect it properly.
And for the record, I've been using windows for 12 years and I have never, ever seen the blue screen of death (on any of my computers).
*) Neptunes featuring this, Neptunes featuring that, Neptunes featuring those, this, that and those featuring the Neptunes Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Mos Def featuring Talib Kweli, Talib Kweli featuring Mos Def, Black Star, Black Star w/ Mos def & Talib Kweli etc. etc. etc.

Disconnecting anything before it's propery ejected is bad news. I ejected a portable HD in OS X and when it took a few seconds for it to disappear from the desktop - I pulled it out too fast. Half the files were instantly corrupted.
