kOna, thats why I stated this thread. I personally don't see what the deal is either.
The only thing that concerned me a little was the manner in which is was implemented which seemed to be below the radar (little or no mention in media or television news.), but then this could also be because of what little impact or importance it carries which underlines the fact of the need not to worry about it.
I'm sure if it was actually important to us, you would see more mention of it than Britneys baby or half the other stuff that gets heavy media rotation.
And like you said earlier, love it or leave it. and if not, then grin and bear it.

That's just the thing it's a non-descript open door for abuse.

it wouldnt be that big of a deal if the cards weren't RFID.
If you dont know the capabilities of RFID, go read about it.

A system of government marked by centralization of authority under a dictator, stringent socioeconomic controls, suppression of the opposition through terror and censorship, and typically a policy of belligerent nationalism and racism.

I seriously don't care, I feel free enough to not be bothered about an introduction of a card. I cannot see it affecting me in any way whatsoever, if someone could highlight how it affects (effects I son't know the word) me then I would be greatful. Will it stop me being me? or will it stop my imaginary freedom in some way??

it'll be much more difficult to give the polis a fake name and address while being pulled up for breach or D&D.
This alone should horrify you Chosser, as it does me and every other right thinking Scoatsman.
BAN THE CARD!!!

*slaps chossy for failing to see the bigger picture

Well from what I gathered it would consolidate information into one ID which would be optimal. Biometrics is another plus IMO cause like I said it prevents others from using your ID which is essential, and probably the worst case seniro in any circumstance involving ID. I do agree on the RFID tho... having this thing literally broadcast data is not a great idea. I think a simle magnetic strip would be more secure.
As far as someone using the ID or the info on it to track, snoop, or harress you.. sh*t, if someone really wanted to go out of their way to do this they could right now... it's been done since forever and it's called stalking.

jesus randoman. i'm almost disgusted that i have to say this to you.
when i said 'love it or leave it' did you read mrdob's post that i PASTED above mine where he said something like 'watch out guys, kona is going to come on here and tell you all to love it or leave it' so when i SAID THAT i was only jokingly responding to mrdobs.
jesus.
also, if you really don't see what the deal is with these cards stop illuding to sarcasm in your posts for fucks sake. this is a text based blog we can't see the sarcasm or lack thereof on your face or hear it in your voice.

They cook you guys veery slowly

But the act they just passed allows the DHS to determine what type of card to use. One with biometric data on it, RFID, whatever...
- randoman0
I know about RFID, I had the same concerns but somene else shed some light on the situation.
First, the document transmitts at such a short range that it must be within a very close proximity to a scanner (ie. magnetic swipe). In addition, the encryption handshake methods that it uses are built like a tank. Add in biometric auth and it's even more difficult for someone to jack your information and use it for marketing your spending habits, monitoring your movements inside and outside of the country, tracking your bank account situation, your medical history, etc. etc.
people are simply paranoid with a capitol P.
If your really concerned with things like this in the first place aren't you afraid to be online? Based on your google searches alone one could try to paint a picture of you. A 10 year old could probably extract this info from you during the period of a snow day at home.
