kOna, thats why I stated this thread. I personally don't see what the deal is either.
The only thing that concerned me a little was the manner in which is was implemented which seemed to be below the radar (little or no mention in media or television news.), but then this could also be because of what little impact or importance it carries which underlines the fact of the need not to worry about it.
I'm sure if it was actually important to us, you would see more mention of it than Britneys baby or half the other stuff that gets heavy media rotation.
And like you said earlier, love it or leave it. and if not, then grin and bear it.

the EU will be getting cards soon enough as well as talk about it in the UK. That is why they care.
I just don't know what problem the institution of these cards is supposed to solve.

dobs, i was about to ask the same thing.
i'm wondering if any/many people in this thread even know exactly what these cards mean/do or is their worry all speculation and assumptions.
i'm also getting a kick out of how many europeans are in on the discussion which makes no sense cause i can't figure out how this involves them. or does it cause from what i've read it doesn't.
so, please, will someone spell it out for me/us?

Mimio, when didn't i say it wasn't marxist in nature???
and oh i'm sorry, obviously he's redundant now cos hes some "20 + year old french intellectual"
Idealistic reation? you don't even know what my reaction is???
u're annoying
and i'm off!
hasta
- mrdobolina0
what is the purpose of these cards exactly?
- Kuz0
sorry chossy, its not about being afraid.
it's more subtle than that. i guess its just about "what sort of society do you want to live in?"
and do you care enough to do something about it?
you should read that link i posted, it's specifically about the bigger picture :)

anyway, i've gone home
ta ta!
*sniffs hands
wtf??????
- Mimio0
What's the task here Kuz, to make some connection between your disparate idealistic reactions(some redundant) to 20+ year old french intellectual social theory?
And say Foucaults work isn't Marxist in nature..is to say you haven't read much of it. The guy made his career in Marxist analysis and extension.

* doesn't tell kuz that I did a plop earlier when I was reading the quotes and didn't change the old nappy nap nap.

kOna, I see, scratch that then I prefer not to drink beer in the woods with men and lube, it's also againt my religion to do so. So... um... how about those Mets? ahem....
- Kuz0
course not chossy
*hugs
i would elucidate what i'm trying to say. but i'm just being kinda random. didn't even read the foucault quotes before pasting them. but i do understand how he saw the world and the nexus of power that operates in some way has something to do with the ID card situation beyond simple terrorism.
but as i say, i cannae be fucked :P
*hugs chossy again and squeezes his bum

stop being intelligent and tell me what I'm going to be missing when they introduce this card...........Or I'll Eat A Puppy.....
- chossy0
simplify it then, why use analogies and big words and confusing sentences, that only you can understand I want to know what I should be afraid of I am more afraid that only you clever people know what to be scared of and you are keeping it to yourself by being all aloof and not sharing your knowledge the English language.

KabaddiKabaddiKabaddiKabaddiKaba...
i do hope we don't fall out over this Kuz as I'm not sleeping on the lumpy couch again :(
- Kuz0
I don't think that's what he's talking about chossy.
- Kuz0
and.....?
(though there;s nothing romantic about him, what a ridiculous thing to say - neoMarxist would be a slightly more appropriate term, though only slightly)
- chossy0
I guess not Kuz.
If you call learning form a skilled worker extracting knowledge, I would call that something better like learning from the master or improving things by studying who is getting good at it.
And of course power in society is percieved as many complex machanics or whatever, because we live in cities and have developed veru very rapidly and power is no longer simply balls and physical strength. Freedom of concience is dangerous of fucking course it is it's a medical condition.
I am not sure if it's not you that doesn't see the bigger picture Kuz I truly believe the people in charge of our country have our best interests at heart.
- Mimio0
Foucault is a romantic Marxist.
- Kuz0
i guess you're just not seeing the "bigger picture"
