Hey de4K, cool that you would like to make the move over here! As far as design goes, the most vibrant scenes are in Auckland and Wellington (eg the most design companies with the best clients) - and both of these cities fucking rock.
As far as broadband goes, you'll find that it is still fairly limited to only the cities. If you are looking for Illustrator work, it might be good to research some of the Illustrator outfits which handle many illustrators, and bring in all the work. I'll find out the names and let you know.

Born in Wellington Vesp?

Im a wellingtionian, and the art/design scene here is great, piles of gallerys, two universitys that both offer great design, i myself have studyed 2 years of graphic design but am now studying industrial design, so theres alot of industrial design in the gallerys and being made, but yes it is a great place for graphic and illustration.
Its small here, but we have everything we want and the communitys are passionate and full of great, well educated people.
anything else you would like to know, i could email you some info if you wont?

well there's a place in the antipodes for sick people like you _smk.
