My partner and I are thinking of moving to New Zealand. I wondered if anyone had any advice on the best places to be with regards to art/design etc. Auckland? Wellington?
...and has fatpipe broadband been rolled out over there outside the cities?
I hear blackspade is the man to talk to?
I'm an illustrator btw.

Hey de4K, cool that you would like to make the move over here! As far as design goes, the most vibrant scenes are in Auckland and Wellington (eg the most design companies with the best clients) - and both of these cities fucking rock.
As far as broadband goes, you'll find that it is still fairly limited to only the cities. If you are looking for Illustrator work, it might be good to research some of the Illustrator outfits which handle many illustrators, and bring in all the work. I'll find out the names and let you know.

Im a wellingtionian, and the art/design scene here is great, piles of gallerys, two universitys that both offer great design, i myself have studyed 2 years of graphic design but am now studying industrial design, so theres alot of industrial design in the gallerys and being made, but yes it is a great place for graphic and illustration.
Its small here, but we have everything we want and the communitys are passionate and full of great, well educated people.
anything else you would like to know, i could email you some info if you wont?

just came back from a month long trip to NZ, it's one beautiful place, although I'd definately advise to visit before moving there.
- de4k0
cheers Riz thats awesome!
your help is vmuch appreciated.just looking at property over there, looking to spend around $150,000, for something semi-central auckland/wellington area?
maybe auckland has better weather though right!?
- de4k0
ah everyones awake now...
- blackspade0
visiting is prob good advice, id personally rather live in Wellington that Auckland
Auckland is just like any other big city in the world
guess it depends on your reasons for wanting to move? if you dont mind temperamental weather youll be fine ! :)
+ your work is hot, so emploment is a non-issue
- Untitled0
The North Shore of Auckland is a very lovely part of the world :-)
- blackspade0
maybe in Dunedin where im from youd get a house semi-central for 150, but no show of that in Aucks or welly!!
- de4k0
email any info you have.
those links are great.we are porbably making a month long visit before we decide for sure.
I know most of the good points about being there.
ie. lifestyle/scenery/weather/good people ( I've met a few kiwis and they've all been really open, down to earth, genuinely nice folk).what are the bad points of living in NZ?
- Untitled0
Ya can't smoke in the Pub no more. I call that a bad point.
- blackspade0
lol James!
at least you dont smell when ya get home, ..and + you get to enjoy that lovely body odour now without all the smoke! ;)

i loved NZ, but i was disappointed in alot of ways. The nature and the people there are wonderful, but it was really touristy, even the REALLY remote spots. Also everything there is really fuckin expensive, even by my NYC standards. I guess if you're a brit, it'll seem cheap to you, but compared to a dollar, it's pretty crazy. All in all, it's an amazing place, but for me it's just a place to visit.

I quit the evil tabs so thats a plus!
I here Blenheim is a good spot outside Wellington?
I want to be close to a city but still a short drive from the great outdoors.
From what I can gather; New Zealand has that in abundance.
