- tomkat0
shellie, was it the 17 or 20 inch?
cause I heard the 17 is quite fragile with heat and all....but thats the one I look at right now in a sort of "I might buy you" way

I dont really gain anything by leaving it on except i dont have to wait for it to start up.
Im just lazy, give the mouse a wiggle and im surfing the web.
do most of my work at work so its mainly a web bitch, but a good web bitch at that.

correction: commodore 64 (incredibly important to get that right!)
- airey0
i prefer my commodore 65 still personally.

It's not that I don't shut it off.. it gets shut off every 2 days or so.
I'm just being an asshole about it. I know very well that these things happen no matter what kind of computer you have.
I just thought it was funny. Personally, I like using both MAC and PC throughout the day. There are pros and cons to both. Anyone who would argue that is insane.

anyone got a link for a good temp monitor?
- pagepapa0
my 20" iMac G5 fired a few weeks back.. tok it to the local APPL store .. two midplanes and LCDs later its fixed.. it does run very hot but cools quickly.. it runs at peak performance almost 160?.. i use temperature monitor just to be safe .. my Imac doesnt get shut off either.. i work days on it and another person in my office works evenings .. its on until late and on early. oh APPL care rocks as it was a little over 4000 US in parts. They backed up my mail and critical files to my ipod as i was panicked. three days without the big mac.. but back and working like a top.. the backup powerbook and on old powerpc were the substitute. . thank go d for old backups and actually owning software since the old days. this is my first mac repair of any sort in ten macs over 16 years .. first one SE.. still running a digital clock in the corner.. My IBM XT.. is probably recycled as a counter top by now.
Still wish they werent so expensive.. I think my grand total is like 20k over those years of ownership..ouch.shellie Hope your mac problems dont change your taste for APPLs.

what do you gain from leaving it on? i'm not being a tool, i just wondering?
- slappy0
I turn my laptop off, hmmm never.
Its been on since 2001, the batery pretty screwed but other wise a - o - k
- airey0
yeah i love the old, who needs to turn off a computer concept.
in a perfect "parts aren't the most cost effective, reduce the labour cost also, hey, who'll notice if the fan isn't quite right" world that would be great but ye gods, my new imac gets to about 3000° C in 15 minutes while working in a liquid cooled bubble below the earths crust. a few days and you'd be sunbathing in front of it.

My friend had one of the new imacs for a month and it fried as he never turned it off. I walked in, and something smelled weird. He took it to the apple store and they fixed it. He said they just had to replace some part, but I don't remember exactly what it was.

I straight up got the sad mac face.
Aw... sad sad mac.
It was very sudden. No signs of distress all day. I believe my Mac is psychotic. Possible schizophrenia. The disruptive "I'm going to fuck up your day" personality came in and took over.

how in the hell... it didn't literally blow up right? just crashed really bad right?
