yeah, those who have been through and decided to get out knows what i mean.
many of my classmates went ahead and worked with some of thoese names mentioned above. it isn't easy working for those people.

i got a friend that's still wrapped up in that shit; working 90 hour weeks as we speak on CD's.
:-(

The profession just grinds you down until your just a little nub, walking around with a dazed, defeated look in your eyes.
And those are the successful ones :D
I don't know how my friends do it - I'm the only one who said "enough".
- tkmeister0
and i call people like me "architect drop-out". and i am cool with that.
- vburo0
oh man.. solid you nailed it.
i know quite a few of those that look like zombies who are my age but chose architecture..
- Solid0
LOL vormburo - arch. background as well?
- ivan_cook0
i like "defector"
it sounds more empowering.

---------------"Consultant" :D
- vburo0
not background.. they are still in it. fulltime. or overtime better..
this one office i visit every now and then for instance, this one guy is always there.. a few months i had to make photgraphs of the new office interior but it had to be done in the evening for the darkness.. it was like 9pm and the guy was STILL working there..hardly noticing me moving stuff around him, just staring at a screen with this frozen gaze..
and another guy i know is wanting to start up a hiphop mag. but he hardly got to even think of a proper format..
all i know is that carreer will eat you.

yeah, "consultant" is ok, but it lacks the militant, revolutionary vibe of "defector."
- vburo0
..also i spoke to a guy who worked for a short while at OMA (Koolhaas) and together with a story i heard from another architect (student) is that it is slavery hell over there.

--------------I meant you vormburo - do you have a arch. background? Or just your friends ..
- vburo0
oh haha.. no not me.
it was my ambition once though..
but now i wonder if i'd really wanted to go there..
i wonder: how many ex-architects (students) moved on to graphic design?
for as far as i know jason kristofer (QBN) studied arch. as well..

-----------------Stories about Koolhaas' office are almost legendary LOL I hear he's a demon and a slave driver :D
Architects like Koolhaas know that they'll never run out of eager, young canon fodder - one of the perks of celebrity :P

I think Bill Cahan started in arch.
- ivan_cook0
we're everywhere...
KDLab
Tronic Studios
Dbox
.
.
.
- vburo0
yeah, sometimes it shines through.. like KDLab..
but KDLab died recently..didn't it?? :'(
- Solid0
I think some parts of State Design started in arch .. or am I thinking The General .. I always mix those two up.
I heard State split, same w/ KDLab ..
- vburo0
yeah i heard one is moving onto film?
that's the new black these days.
Kramer of KesselsKramer also quit and moved on to film as well..
(but they had nothing to do with architecture though)
- Solid0
KDLab? Yea - looks like ones going to do film full-time, while the other seems to be tied to web/graphics .. at least judging from their respective sites ..
So vormburo - "NL is where its at" - you probably hear a lot of that these days - as someone actually working there do you feel the same way?
For the record I certainly think NL is where it's at :D
