i dont know much about the Scotland vs UK thing. So I won't say anything.
But this is not a language problem no?
so you can't understand the Quebec vs Canada thing. Really. I dont want to fight with you. Just speak calm.
I bring you peace. ;)

its writin in the history, english canadians haved try to assimilate french-canadians in Quebec since the beggening but we're fighting them to survive, to preserve our language and our culture.

OK let's not argue anymore :) The Scotland/England/UK thing isn't about language but many more reasons too extensive to go into. I'm sure the Canada/Quebec thing isn't just about language either so you're right, I wouldn't know.
But what about those Italians eh? What's their problem? :D

heyyyyyyyy were about love here ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

in fact the majority of english-canadians dont like french-canadians from Quebec and dont care about us.
But they dont want us to separate from them because Quebec province is with Ontario the biggest and richest province with a lots of natural ressources. If Quebec leave, the Canada will lost a truck load of people who pay taxes and that mean a lots of cash.
thats why the majority of english-candians dont like us but dont want us to leave...
and many people are tired of this in Quebec.

Oh great, another Scot in Canada. My "cute" accent just got a little less cute. If you come to Ottawa you can have my job and I'll go back to Scotland.
Just kidding around... there's more work here in Canada then I ever had in the UK.

Well again, the similarities between us come through. In the 80's the English Thatcherite government closed down Scotland's booming steel and coal industries, closed down all our shipyards and moved the business down south to England. Scotland is also rich in oil (in territories in the North Sea) and the English are scared that if Scotland gains indepence then they will lose a majority of their main exports.
I could go on but I don't want to turn this into a political thread (like it hasn't already!!!). The similarities do interest me though. Worth looking into.

I left Aberdeen in '83 and moved to London (ancient, I know) and I came to Canada in '89... moved around a bit. I love it here and consider it home.
Welcome!

I love how Quebec wants to be their own country but still want to use the Canadian currency and economy... right, next!

Yikes. Tense thread...
Well, having grown up in Alberta all my life (Edmonton) and spent a lot of time in Calgary, I consider myself to be an Alberta refugee. I live in Vancouver now and I'd sell my soul to the devil to stay in BC and not go back to Alberta...
Sounds harsh, but it's more of an I love BC statement than a hate for Alberta.
The thing I do find narrow-minded about Alberta though that I can't stand is the whole:
"I need a big fuck off truck/SUV to drive on paved roads to work, and I need a huge urban sprawl cookie cutter house with a useless front lawn" mentality.
The entire city of Calgary is bigger than New York but only has 1MIL population! Calgary has some awesome spots and I would live there over Edmonton, but it could be SO much more if people understood the sense of urban community/culture that comes with more densely populated areas.
That said I wouldn't live in TO either. I just have to roll my eyes everytime someone from there tells me it's the best place despite having never really been anywhere else, or that the Leafs are the best despite having a big ass payroll and not winning anything with it in 40 years...

(Jan 29 05, 17:14)i will not argue and all.
but there's reasons for that... and some of them are to accomodate you, rest of canada.
- Jaline0
Yeah, lots of people are tired of the Quebec residents wanting to separate from the rest of Canada, but it doesn't mean we don't care about who they are or what they do. And tons of people from Canada are interested in speaking French and do.
- benfal990
tons... iam not so sure about tons.
but i know some care.
- Jaline0
Well...at least in Ontario tons of people speak French.
