i have lived here for a few years on and off since high school. two years in grande prairie, then to vancouver for a couple years, then two years in lethbridge ab, and now this is my third year in calgary. i know that the people here are intellegent, creative, and generous, hard working and kind. where in calgary did you live during your 6 months here and what was it you disliked exaclty?

i can't remeber where exactly in calgary it was... it was downtown tho and we would stay at the Paliser. i was there for about a total of 6 months... usually two weeks at a time over the course of 2 years as we had a very big account going with PanCanadian Energy at the time.
what about calgary didn't i like?... where should i start?
you really clinging to this thread aren't you?... never realised you took such offense to what's said here on the interwebs.... are you jazx?

you are the one who keeps responding to my posts!
sucker!!!
:P

I've lived in Calgary for 7 years and counting... and I agree with 2cent, Calgary really sucks.
I've recently visited Montreal for the first time and loved it! I really want to move there, but I have a lot of family and friends here in Calgary which makes it hard.

nice try, i think this rogaz3 isn't real... how convenient they signed up today and don't have a website...

dear leah, you neednt be so defensive towards calgary, its a nice place, clean, modern, good steak... but its not all that
- -leah-0
well shit yah i know calgary isn't all that! yeesh it just isn't bad. that's all i am sayin
- rogaz30
Not real? WTF am I then?
Do you really like the Stampede leah? You really think its "The greatest outdoor show on Earth"?
- magicpatch0
its anything from bad, its got the sweetest air, girls, water, but lacks in other departmetns like culture, diversity and style
- -leah-0
true that magicpatch. there is not as great and in your face culture in calgary as other places, you really have to dig for it. i am not going to spend my whole life here that's for damn sure. :)
- magicpatch0
funny thing about calgary is that its the smallest big city in the world, everyone knows each other, its land locked, and pretty far from anything. although it does a great job of making the best of what they got... its not soul-less, but the support is where it lacks
- aplus0
magicpatch has it right. Calgary is great for what it is. It isn't toronto or montreal. But it isn't what 2cent makes it out to be with his comments. Calgary has chinooks, amazing mountains, plenty of blue skies, friendly people, and much more. We lack culture, but we try. And I think the ignorant stereotype we seem to receive gets old and people get defensive. The important part is trying to be open minded. Different Strokes... oh and Welcome to our new Scottish mates.

exactly aplus! that's what i was trying to say :)
on a side note were you out last night by chance at the mortal coil?
- 2cent0
ooh leah... your posts make laugh... first you say this...
"in reality Calgary is cultured in comparison to most cities in the world.
-leah-(Jan 29 05, 10:53)"
then you say this...
"there is not as great and in your face culture in calgary as other places, you really have to dig for it.
-leah-(Jan 29 05, 13:07)"
so which one is it?... you seem to be confused on this subject.
- -leah-0
i meant calgary's culture is great as in large not best. why can't you let this go? why are you attacking me?
- canuck0
Is this still going on?
haha
- -leah-0
and not to meantion you live in one of the most culturally devoid places in canada. the businesses have totally ruined a beautiful mountain so they can make money. it is full of shallow people.
- -leah-0
i was totally kidding with my last statement about whistler. :P

OMG!!! Put your guns down cowboys! Glad to see it's the same over there as it is here - Edinburgh vs Glasgow, North vs South, Scotland, Wales & Ireland vs England...
Still, I know we're not making the wrong choice. It's not like we've just picked a city name out of a hat here. We've researched it quite a bit and chose Calgary for a few reasons, mainly property prices, no PST, plus the close proximity to the Rockies, and Leah's there :D
Came to Toronto a couple of years back and LOVED it. Great place, people (hi Exador, Piperboy and the rest of you guys!), food, shopping and The Horseshoe Bar! I'd love to come back to visit again but I couldn't see myself living there in the same way I think of London - I love the place but see it as more of a "go nuts" holiday destination.
Plus like Leah said, you don't have to spend the rest of your life in the same place. Canada's the 2nd largest country in the world and has half the population of the UK! And 1/6th of those people are from overseas! There's enough room for everyone! Plus the strict controls on immigration means no useless waste of space losers will be given a Visa - they'll be educated, healthy respectable people. Every new person that lands on Canadian soil is making it a better place.
We can't wait to get across! OK so it's going to cost us close to £5k to do it and will take 2 to 3 years but it's worth it. Just keep a couple of nice cold beers in the fridge for us for when we arrive :)
P.S. Thanks to everyone for welcoming us, even though we're not there yet!!!
