Hey vespa, any of the moving n' shaking over at the bbc going to have any affect on you?
Things must be pretty grim over there for a lot of people though.

oh yikes yeah. It's only the proletariat tho innit? The Admin and Receptionist bumpkins? Creatives like Vespa are safe... i think

No. I think the Interactive Dept. may have to relocate to Manchester...
That you Vespa?

new media don't know about cuts until next year. everything is moving to manchester, but not for a few years...

looks like 'The new media headquarters, research and development and formal learning are also being moved to Manchester'. I couldn't remember what department Kim worked for?
Could be rough if thats the case, mind you I could buy her flat off her if she has to move!Theres always a silver lining....

Why Manchester?. Seems a bit odd considering London has one of the biggest creative industries on there door step?
- Kuz0
Manchester's a pretty cool place. I could live there.. i mean it's no london... but y'know, cud have been Birmingham *shiver*
- JamesEngage0
its not the end of the world though is it... we're only a small island (he says knowing that he wouldn't be to pleased to up and move)...
Look on the bright side my girlfriends job nearly moved to moscow... how grim would that of been!

Birmingham is rapidly becoming quite respected... and they'll be the second place to have an apple store (woop dee doo)... followed by Bluewater

Re: Moving to Manchester.
I think it has summin to do with accusations that the BBC is too london focused.

You're a Southerner, aren't you?

Manc - Cool, Birmingham - what Kuz said.

Manchester is sound.
I can see why they are moving things up there, cheaper overheads, spreads the creation of content for Britain out of just one city, workforce not so expensive, loads of businesses are doing it.
Plus the beeb already has the infostructure up there.
Still a bit rough if you don't want to go, but it could work out well for some.
- hUtCh0
I'm assuming that people who relocate wouldn't be asked to take a paycut.
London wages in Manc. You'd be minted!

but in regards to job losses what normally happens is people start looking straight away or move on of their own choice rather than wait for the axe to fall. It's rough but better than redundancy coming out of no where. That's like a train wreck...
- Jnr_Madison0
The people are so friendly in Manchester I'm convinced they are all on drugs.
- JamesEngage0
I've been to Birmingham a few times... did you know you're not allowed to take pictures of the selfridges building!

Hahahaha. Yep I must be.
But I would give Manchester a go, I have heard some good things about the place. Its just a shame too see the BBC move.
Anyway. :)

I think the reason they are leaving is because the BBC licence is up for re-newal and the beeb has a lot of enemies after Hutton, and so it's move outside London is a political move to reflect New Labour policies. New Labour has already embarked on a massive programme to move civil servants out of London and into different areas of the country. Departmenets like the DCMS, DTI and few other departments are al set to be shipped out to other cities in an effort to make the UK less London centric. The BBC plans are designed to impress Tony Blair and be all liek, we're relevant to the whole country, please re-new our licence etc..
