---------------------Could you be more specific?
There are a lot of misconceptions about what "right wing" is.
To me - it's conservative liberalism - free market, low taxes, minimal burreaucracy and state interference in economy.
"Left wing" is everyone who says "you are working hard and we will take your taxes now, to feed all the lazy poor people so they vote for us again."

"...but when the best candidate is some guy we really don't know anything about,..."
can't you fucking read mate? or have you chosen not to?
- toastie0
SteveJobs, I only said that to illustrate the fact that there are countless issues that are not simply a matter of "someone's opinion", but something a little more basic, something that shouldnt be dictated by religios doctrine or crackpot family values, but respect and equality standards.
- jevad0
I'm outta here before I get flagged for talking political shit outside of the politics thread

lazy poor people so they vote for us again."

(nov 2 04, 08:18)Are we talking about lazy people or poor people!?
Two very diferent things I guess!
- kingjulien0
Jevad, no offense, I know you hold some deep felt political convictions, and I respect you for them, but just because I have some doubts about the contradictions of a particular candidate doesn't mean I can't read, and it's beyond arrogant and pretentious for you to assume otherwise.
I've read a lot about both candidates, and politics in general, and IMHO the more you know, the less sure you become of the sincerity of any candidate. I guess it also boils down to what you read, and how that source has distorted and biased the info.
But since you're obviously the enlighted one here, I guess whatever I say is meaningless anyway.

it is an political idea. nothing against conservatives - but those in your state have lost the idea of a 'real conservative'

Do you have a direct line to god or do you know something else about the future that we mortals don't?

I hope I don't ;)I see a clear link between GB
being tle least left in Europe and their economy flourishing.
Then there are leftist France and Germany (even if their governments might call themselves right-wing look at what they do, not what they say) whose social states are in deep trouble..
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Actually, I believe in the British to stop Europe at the right (heh) point by not accepting the constitution.

well said, kingjulien.

no - I count your opinion as much as my own - jsut as I count slinky's or disciplers. I don;t agree - but I don't have to.
I can't quite understand why you would say you don;t know kerry - there is so much stuff out there on him, and Bush, that I find it hard to believe. That's all I was saying...

kingjulien,
It's not that hard of a choice, the candidates are so different. One sees that US foriegn policy must change for the better, the other wants a blank check for a never ending war that will benefit his friends.
- chach0
it is done.
you guys all seem to have a pretty fucked up idea of what you think things are like over here (in the USA).
to say that people here have no respect for life, or that we don't care about all of the death overseas, is just nonsence. i mean, hell, i get woozy when i pass the footlocker in the mall...and there's a nike feature here on NT like everyday.
corporate facism is all our common enemy. if i was a rich republican maybe that statement would carry more weight. then again, fuck the labels, right?
you'll be happy to know that this white male from a poor religeous family in the rural south voted against bush. i was in-and-out in 20 minutes, and everyone there was under 30 and visibly democratic. (i am unaffiliated)
we know reform is in order, but we're also smart enough to know that that need shouldn't trump the decision that is at hand. this one could obviously cost a lot of lives. last time i voted independant, this time there is too much at stake to embrace my idealism fully.
just know that some of us, many of us in my locale, are indeed aware.

- SteveJobs0
"One sees that US foriegn policy must change for the better"
that's a very generic statment that i believe i've heard both candidates utter during the last few months. don't forget, kerry supported the attack on iraq, even though they couldn't find wmd's.
- vespa0
kingjulien, i agree that there is oversimplification on both sides which can be annoying, result of parties trying to get a simple message to appeal to as many people as possible i guess.
but so far as "any comparison with Hitler is beyond retarded. Hitler exterminated 6 million jews. Enough said." goes, 100 000 people have been exterminated so far for this war.
Exactly what number does the innocent dead need to reach before it bears comparison?
- Stylus0
really stupid question but why are the Republicans abbreviated as GOP what's it stand for? also do you get fined if you don't vote in the states?
- unfittoprint0
chach is part of the America I admire.
the America that gives a fuck.
- jevad0
"kerry supported the attack on iraq"
Because he was given MISLEADING information about WMD's
jeebus
- kingjulien0
Of course there's a lot of stuff out there about both candidates, but that doesn't mean I really know Kerry or Bush. Everything that gets to us has already been spun, manipulated, distorted, and grinded through strategic campaign meetings and writers and editors to the point where all we're getting is just fluff, mindless buzz, soundbites for those who don't want to think critically or indepth. It works on both sides, but still, the idea that you know someone from reading 100 articles about them is quite preposterous to me--again, in my opinion.
- toastie0
and voting for a war is quite different from planning it since before 9/11.

""kerry supported the attack on iraq"

bush would make the same *claim
