they are all really big names in the market that I deal in.
so having them as clients gives me more credibility.
its like saying you're the designer for nike, reebok and addidas....
sorta.
well not really....shitty example...but you get the gist.
i'm thinking that IF i work with this dude again, i'm OVER charging him...and in the contract with him i'm making SPECIAL provisions.
- tny0
good god, you ought to charge him for theraputic assistance..
+200 for the email
+proj. fees!

something to keep in mind: when you go to an attorney for something, they have a file on you. that file belongs to the firm or the attorney, but once you pay in full you, as a client, can take that file with you. you paid for it, it is yours.
that is industry standard for that profession, so you'd have to demonstrate to him that this is not our industry standard - which i believe you did.

sputnik, thanks dude
i think thats what I tried to show..but you gave a really good example.
D

anytime...i know how much it sucks to deal with a cheesy client.
its always the cheap ones, too!
- jpolk0
wow, that was a really poorly written letter, i don't think you are fooling the guy.
btw, what is the problem with handing a photoshop file over? you already said that you want to keep your clients happy. a psd for a minisite is not the same as a photo negative, or a 3d source file, imo.
- sputnik0
i actually have had to burn files onto CD for some clients before when they asked for them. no big wup for me, but everyone feels differently about it.
- dconstrukt0
j polk, its your opinion.
the point is that he paid for 1 thing and gets a discount THEN asks for more and more and more.
2 color sheme finals...psds to edit.....etc.
he paid for one thing, then wants more.
this is business. its like going to mcdonalds and paying for a burger and fries, then expecting to get a coke for free.
- jpolk0
"its like going to mcdonalds"
my thoughts EXACTLY...

- DutchBoy0
i was about to post it to the PBS for bestest client email ever.. but deconstrkt is a nice fella..
but thx for the laff!
hehe..
- dconstrukt0
duch/sputnik....
what was so funny about it?
lol......
now i'm curious.
- sputnik0
i'm just very formal and professional with regards to any and all communications i have with clients. your email was quite lengthy and informal and it made me laff a little, but i didn't mean anything by it.
you seem like a good guy and i hope he stops yanking your chain.
- dconstrukt0
yeah dude...i dont give a fuck with that....
they know i talk to them professional but lets face it....i'm doing this guy a favor.
i gave the guy a discount...
and i'll send him his money back if hes a dick....i dont need it that bad.
i have a big background in sales so i'm pretty good at dealing with people.....sometimes.
yea it was long, but everytime he emailed me he was asking for more and more.
yest it was a psd file for the header, then all the psd's....now the images with 2 color schemes....
you give them an inch they want a foot.
thanks sputNik
- sputnik0
question: he just asked for multiple colour schemes during the project? did you do those just as a favour, or to be accommodating?
- dconstrukt0
sputnik:
the package that I offer on the site is that they get a minisite, and i guarantee that they're gonna like it.
but this client is asking for 2 FINAL versions.
thats not part of the package, then he also wants the psds...so HE can make changes to the stuff later on.
thats also not part of the package.
its like doing an identity for a co. and they pay for business cards, letterhead etc.
you don't just give them the rights to the ID...thats yours....
my teacher, who was pres. of the AIGA down here, said that if the client wants the rights to the logo they have to buy it.
I feel like its the same way with those psd's.
its more so the point that i gave this guy a discount, then he wants more and more and more.
and its not part of the deal.

Bro... I had a situation a lot like this... I sent her money back and skipped all the bs. $200 bucks is crap for what this guy is requesting.... throw the project, and tell him why too.
- zedvox0
uhh.
that was indeed a long email
reminds me of me and the letters i write to my ex when i am drunk.and is the client Deep? an indian
good luck if he is..lol
