it's really hard to get a feel for how all of this is going to turnout.
i talk to people about bush regularly on the subway - i think there's a pretty strong anti-bush majority. if everyone in the country voted, the democrats would win easily.
but the apathy of some people always seems to amaze me. out of all the strangers i've talked too about the election, i'd say i got the impression that about half of them would actually go out and vote.
if the democrats want something to panic about, it should be voter turnout. they shouldn't leave it to mtv.

people just aren't politically engaged by the two available parties. which is why i admire nader for giving it another go.
if another player got into the mix of things, i think political awareness of your average american would sky rocket.
it's always been the status quo, or change. that's not terribly interesting. go turn on yout television to get an idea of what americans like. they like choice (200 some odd channels) and entertainment.
2 parties is not going to cut it.

Yeah, BonSeff! Just tell people to vote...get the flipping vote out, man! ;)
If you live in a liberal leaning state, vote for a third party...we could use one to keep the other two honest.

quoth the green-hugging san fran bay guardian:
"We're not at all convinced the Greens should be running a presidential campaign this year...
The future of the Greens, we've always said, starts with local elections"

I disagree that a vote for Nadar is in essence a vote for Bush. Bush won by 560 votes. Nadar had 80k. If Nadar had 86k, Bush would not have been president. Who's to say that voting for Nadar isn't taking a vote from Bush?

i think that argument is based on the assumption that a vote for nader is taking one away from a dem. when he's a indie, crazy logic
- dessalles0
the reasoning is this...
at exit polls, when those who voted for nader were asked wether they prefered bush or gore, two thirds said they prefered gore. so had nader not been running, two thirds of the votes for nader would have gone to gore. and that would have been enough for him to win.
the weaknesses in the argument are:
*those voters might not have necessarily voted had nader not run
*the two thirds that would have gone to gore (had nader not run) would be dilluted through out the 50 states, only having an effect on the popular vote
*the exit polls and statistics are accurate
*there are other third patries

i dont blame a lot of you for your derogatory remarks about ralph nader. yea, he will take away votes from kerry. yea, he's ugly. yea, he seems angry. and yea, to all of your obvious superficial viewpoints. but think about it... ralph nader put seat belts in cars when the government and general motors attempted to stop him, saving countless number of lives to this day. he's taken on corporations that rob the innocent when no politician would step up. he's started public interest research groups that provide basic resources for our every day lives that we take for granted. and i could go on and on about what's he's done for all of us (without one honorable mention or "good job, ralph"). kerry, bush and the other fools have done jackshit for us, but have done plenty for the privileged and rich. i want to vote for someone that is qualified for the job. someone that will be able to deal with foreign affairs, the domestic agendas and put america on a path towards peace and prosperity. he has walked the talk, thats why nader gets my vote (its a shame i didn't vote in 2000).

goes to show how much power Nadar has. no one seems to remember the Libertarian party, Socialist Workers party, Workers World party, Reform party,etc...These parties received at least approximately 1% of the 2000 vote.

from nonader, org: There is no "safe" vote for Nader. The only person who can keep us from another four years of Bush's radical and irresponsible leadership is the Democratic nominee.

I'm not going to read all these posts, but by my memory, the votes Nadar got were more than the difference between the worst president of the last century winning and losing.

46% of florida voters for nader said they would had voted for gore if nader was not on the ticket, more than enough for gore to win the florida election.

Lemme get this straight:
We can have seven varieties of canned corn, but only two choices for president:
Super rich corrupt fucker #1
Super rich corrupt fucker #2Yet America tries to spread 'democracy' around the world. Good example.
- kpl0
change the system.
electoral college is outdated and was never meant to be democratic, and it necessitates a two party system.
working for that would be more useful for change than voting for nader.

46%?
what did the other 54% say?
