is "whinge" UK for "whine"?
- woodyBatts0
Free interning is ignorant, unfortuantely it's source is mainly college students, and it phases out students who have to support themselves while in school, leaving more priveledged people the opportunity to advance.
Being someone who had to finance thier entire education myself, I feel sorry for the student who has to slave at a crappy waiter/waitressing job in order to finance and pursue their passion, while someone else gets to gain knowledge without the struggle.
Just my opinion...

I meant that I've noticed the word "whinge" on these boards, and does it mean the same as "whine"? If so, I enjoy it, like I enjoy "shite" instead of the US "shit"

(save used the word)

thanx smell!
unfortunately I find its a cycle, meaning you wind up working for/with people who have a lack luster work ethic and F**K everything up because they don't know when to say "gee maybe I shouldn't go out drinking, because I have a 8:00a.m. deadline tomorrow"
it's a vicious cycle!
- smellvetica0
but then again, if you're not being challenged.. one may tend to look elsewhere for some satisfaction.. drinking seems to help quite a bit, as does chasing gals!
whinge - whine , yes
shit - shite, too right!
- woodyBatts0
drinkin, partyin, etc etc all that's fine, but business is business. And of course i'm talking from my own experience.
and it's Professor Batts!
:)

of course they should be given a little something, for modest purposes i'd insist on a certainly slipping them something quietly for their troubles.
i make sure all my 'interns' as you say are adequately seen to, maybe a sly back hander or a straight up, face to face 'deal'- that sort of thing. one thing they can't say is that as a boss, i like to give.

word - wordyBatts.
The system of interns bothers me for a long list of reasons but the exclusion of designers from disadvantaged backgrounds is near the top. Not all creative people have rich parents....

I think a non paid work experience or Internship is plain wrong (unless you're actually still at university). An apprenticeship is the right way to do this.
Advertising agencies are fifty times worse than design agencies. Ad agencies seem to relish making potential employees sweat for a position, and then pay them fuck all when they get one, keep them on short term contracts, give them loads of crap like "you're really important to us" whilst the upper management get paid £££ and hold huge parties!

inerns deserve nothing. even if they have skills, they still need to learn the business and that's something you can't get in college, a place where you PAY to learn... interns are scum of the earth, less than dirt. they need to be humbled and humiliated to the point of groveling for scan work. they are the pebble shaped fecal droppings of rabbits.

i was paid in tequila, goldshlager, an apt with no hot water, and no kitchen.
it worked out. I liked to drink, it was a hot summer, and i always ate burritos from the mex place across the street.
- mrlerone0
You make me sick.
- evad0
lilbabyleg,
what's an inern?
- mrlerone0
That was to "liblaleg" or something (can't read name now this window has appeared over tha thread).
You're all very very stupid to not realise how much fresh talent can teach you stale, jobsworthy "macusers". It's arrogant and so, so wrong to think you're better than someone because of your actonscripting knowledge, or that you know your way around a server.
Get real.
